Probably Miley in a big park. Quick worker, good student of his opponents. Lots of experience.

Castillo, but on a very short leash.

Rounding third and heading for home...
I personally trust Sonny more than anyone else when healthy and a few starts past an injury caused period of not pitching. If we can get that Sonny, I'd start him with Miley in the bullpen in the first inning on until we get to at least the 6th. If the team we're playing is much more successful against right-handers than lefties, I'd reverse that.
I don't trust Castillo one bit. Just seems that he's going to have a temporary implosion at least somewhere in the first 5 innings and he seems to let up when Reds take a lead.
IMO. One of the most ridiculous decisions and grievous errors was not in instituting a WC... but making it one game. C'mon. How about a three game play-off?

I believe it's for TV more than anything. Baseball loves the idea of ensuring a rubber game. They can't guarantee that any of the LDS goes to a 5th game nor a LCS and WS go to a 7th. This ensures two of those kind of scenarios a year.
As a fan though, it's difficult to think that you invest 6 months and 162 games of your life rooting for a chance to win won more game in October.

Miley has earned it and has been one of the best pitchers in the NL this year. Honestly, he's one of the primary reasons we're in the spot we're in and competing for a playoff spot. So Miley's my guy.
FWIW, if the Reds make zero changes to their rotation then I believe Miley's last scheduled start would be Friday, 10/1, at Pittsburgh. That would put him in line to start on 10/6 in the NL Wildcard game.
And with the way the schedule falls, a potential tiebreaker game on 10/4 would allow the Reds to choose between Castillo and Gray.
All this said, whoever would start one (or both games, if applicable) ... we do not need to see another act ala Steve Parris or Johnny Cueto.

The Lost Decade Average Season: 74-88
2014-22 Average Season: 71-91
Now look at that list. Pitcher war is ridiculous stat. Every team in baseball would pick 2-7 on that list to start a game over Miley.
Miley has been outstanding. But he is not a top tier pitcher.
The Reds need to exrisise his option 100%. But he is not going to put up numbers next season like he has this year.
Couldn't agree more. Just absolutely absurd. But what I've come to expect from today's MLB decision-makers. It may play into the Reds' advantage somewhat , however. The Reds' chances of beating the Dodgers in a one-off game is probably better than beating them two of three. But, you're right, a one game wildcard ... I hate it !!!
