NL Wild Card Schedules Week of September 20

Cards have surged ahead but there’s still a Wild Card race and here are the schedules for next week. Not including Mets who trail Cards by 8 in loss column. If no “at” then it’s a home game.

    Reds - Pirates (3) and Nats (4).

Cards - at Brewers (4) and at Cubs (4, includes doubleheader).

    Phils - Orioles (3) and Pirates (4).

Pads - Giants (3) and Braves (4, includes completion of suspended game). Off-day September 20.

Braves - at DBacks (4) and at Pads (4, includes completion of suspended game).

Re: NL Wild Card Schedules Week of September 20

Notes- Phils have gained on Braves and are one game out in NL East. The two teams play each other in the last week of the season in Atlanta.

One scenario is Phils gain control of East division and Braves fall into WC race, with tougher schedule on paper.

Pads lead Braves 5-4 in the suspended game, fifth inning.

Obviously big week for Cards who finish season at home. Cards with 8 road games week of 9/20 maybe creates an opening for Reds.

Looking at all important loss column, Cards with 69, Braves 70, Reds, Phils, Pads all with 72. Reds have fewest games remaining, with two off days the final week.

Good info. I just wanted to add, starting next week (ie after the Dodges series is done) , only 12 games left for the Reds.
We need the Brewers to beat up the Cards badly and everyone else in the wild card chase to slow down as well.
Obviously, we need to win at least 5 in the 7 games vs the Pirates and Nats too.
Not impossible, but time is running out.
Here's hoping the Padres beat the Cards today.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Not matter what happens today. I think the Reds must win 6 of 7 on the remaining homestead. Going to be tough without Winker and Naquin. Lineup against rhp is weakened now.

The big key is the Brewers. Will they put their best out agains the Cards, or will they coast to the division title?

The other key is the Reds beating up on weak teams. They haven’t done it lately, but have 9 games against the Pirates and Nationals. They need to dominate them. If they don’t, it doesn’t matter what other teams do.

I wouldn’t forget home v road. All these teams, except Atlanta, are better at home. Even Reds, who earlier were good on road, are now only .500 on the road.

It’s a given you have to win most of your remaining home games. But winning on road could decide this. Cards have upcoming 8 straight games on road.

Reds have only 5 road games left, which is an advantage, win big v Pirates and Nats at home, go 3-2 on the final road trip.

There is no "beating up on weak teams." The Reds ARE the weak team right now.

Very likely that the Phillies move past the Reds this week.
Rounding third and heading for home...

I think 5 of 7 will suffice. That would put the Reds at 82-75. The Cardinals are 79-69. They have 8 games this week. If they go 4-4 that'd put them at 83-73. We'd be 1.5 back with a week to play which is doable. If the Cards go anything above 4-4 this week you can probably fork the Reds, unless they run off 7 straight which ain't happening captain. In other words, and I hate it, but we're probably done. Letting the dumbarse Cardinals off the hook up 4-0 last Saturday was most likely the death knell. We could've put them 4 out and pretty much crushed their spirit. But, hey that's baseball as some would say.

Today was a big blow to our chances. Before today, Fangraphs had us at 22%, now we're down to 14%, which honestly, seems a bit generous.

As the remaining games dwindle, Reds’ odds are reduced, sure. But I’d argue that this weekend wasn’t too bad. It’s the series losses to the Cubs and Tigers and Pirates that are ruining Reds’ chances.

Reds faced two Hall of Farmers and a Cy Young candidate this weekend, and the tough Dodger lineup. I can’t look at 1-2 this weekend as a big failure.

This team was built for about a solid 3.5 month run. They’ve given all they have. They’re not going to reach back and stop being bad all of a sudden. Not enough depth for that.

Their chances are slim, there's no doubt.

It looks like going limp at the same time that the Cards went on a tear was the final nail in the coffin.

They have the starting pitching to not rule it out. But yeah, the offense has gone full pumpkin without one guy (Wink), essentially. Unless a few bats (like, at least two, three or four would be ideal) get smokin' hot that's all she wrote.

The bolded, as I've mentioned, is the sad but true tale. Luis was wonderful against the Dodgers but he all but handed the Cardinals the lifeline they needed to go on this run that likely gives them the WC. If he holds that 4 run lead, the Cardinals likely get swept by the Reds, who likely go on to win at least two against Pittsburgh. The Cardinals would be toast. It's not a popular opinion here but Luis Castillo letting a big lead get away in possibly the biggest game of the season all but sealed the fate of our beloved Redlegs. It is what it is.

Their bullpen will negate whatever their rotation can muster. And Miley and Gray have gone in the tank.
