    Wendy’s changing its French fries

    https://www.eatthis.com/news-wendys-...-fries-launch/

If you love that fresh-from-the-frier experience, one beloved burger chain has just announced a revolutionary new French fry that will deliver, as one executive promises, "hot and crispy fries every time."

Wendy's culinary innovation team hosted a virtual press conference Thursday to announce their new fries, which have been engineered to retain their heat and crunch for 15 to 30 minutes after purchase.

At this week's press event, Wendy's senior specialist for culinary innovation, Emily Kessler, described the Wendy's French fry transformation: "One side is built with a thicker side, and it's built for heat retention, while the other side is thinner and that's really to enhance crispiness because we know our customers want hot and crispy fries every time," Kessler said, also noting that the brand adds a "whisper" of coating to amp up the crisp factor.

John Li, Wendy's vice president of culinary innovation, said the company has had their heads down for quite some time to nail the best fry: "We put some really hard effort into this with a lot of blood, sweat and tears but to actually end up with a fry that is nearly two-to-one preference versus our primary competitor McDonald's, it's pretty exciting."

The Wendy's fry 3.0 is the first change in more than a decade to what brand leaders call the number-one selling item at the chain (though, we should note, that sales volume may be due at least in part to the fact that fries are the default side in many Wendy's value meals). It was November 2010 when Wendy's first introduced the current skin-on fry, compared to its previous cleaner-cut, all-golden fry more similar to those from chains like Burger King and McDonald's.

On Friday, Wendy's chief marketing officer, Carl Loredo, told his LinkedIn followers that "the reinvented Hot & Crispy Fries [that] are here to disrupt the category . . . are rolling out now and will be in all restaurants nationwide by mid-September."

Re: Wendy’s changing its French fries

I am in the minority and consider Wendy’s fries one of the best of the fast food chains. They are just right thickness, fluffy in the center, salty, strong potato flavor, with the only fault being their lack of extreme crispness, though I find them just crispy enough.

McDonalds used to have the best fries, but they just don’t fry them long enough anymore, and are always undercooked, leaving them pale and soggy.

I will be interested in seeing how these new Wendy’s fries turn out, but I am skeptical. They say they will now add a “whisper of coating,” which could be disasterous. Burger King coats their fries, and they have the worst, imo, because of the coating. It gives the fries a chemical taste that overwhelms the entire fry. Hopefully the Wendy’s coating will be different.

Regardless, I will definitely be trying them.

I haven’t had a good batch of Wendy’s fries in years. I’d gladly take their breakfast fries instead, if only they sold them all day.

I am definitely in the minority in my opinion on Wendy’s fries. I do agree on their breakfast potatoes. They are a close second to the legendary McDonald’s hash brown patties in terms of breakfast potatoes.

I guess maybe I know a bunch of people in the minority, but everyone I know loves Wendy's fries. I had Wendy's over the weekend and pretty sure I had the new fries. They were definitely more crispy and I'd say tasted slightly better as a result.

The Wendy's in the town we moved to last year closed down shorty after we got here. No idea what happened. But I'm not missing it. I have thought for a long time Wendys has gone downhill. The burgers are no where near as thick and juicy as they once were back in the 80's. If not for my wife still liking them I would have quit going to them a long time ago.

    Fast food in general, really.

I feel like the only reason a lot of people keep going there is that it is a habit needing to be broken. For the same price you can hit up a place like Jersey Mike's and the quality is much much higher.

Same with middling chain restaurants. Why? They aren't much difference in price than the high end places anymore, but the quality of food drop-off is profound.

These fast food places need to either automate or just give up. Because right now, it's just sad. Adding to the sadness is, these days there's only 2 or 3 people running the whole place, if even that many.

I had the new ones today for lunch…they’re definitely better than the ones they’ve sold me over the past few years. Still don’t think I’d go out of the way for them.

They need to now work on their bbq sauce and push out the strawberry frosty they are testing.

I usually don't eat fast food, but when I do it's Wendy's because their meat seems leaner to me.

It's being test marketed in Walmart's in Heath Ohio and in Toronto.

They're also testing "Buttermilk Ranch and Jalapeno Cheddar flavored chicken nuggets".

And it's not just available in the standard Frosty form. Frosty Sundaes are available in all three flavors—chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry—at the Hamburger Stand inside of Walmart, with toppings like marshmallows and Lucky Charms cereal, the chain tells Eat This, Not That!.

Re: Wendy’s changing its French fries

Finally tried the new Wendy’s fries, and they are as disappointing as I expected.

They seem the same as the old ones, except they are now coated with a chemical that tricks you into thinking they are crispy. Many fast food places are going this route, BK was the first. It ruins the fries, in my opinion.

I guess I will be sticking to Wendy’s for breakfast from now on.

    Wendy’s changing its French fries

I’m fairly certain I haven’t eaten at a Wendy’s since they got rid of their salad bar potato thingy

But I don’t eat meat so I don’t go to fast food places because I’m not their demographic

So they changed their fries eh?

McDonalds is the only one if those places that did them right anyway
