Bell said that Winker felt a little something with his intercostal injury recently. Nothing too serious but it might delay his rehab assignment target date by a day or two. The Reds hoped it would start this weekend.

Jesse Winker is beginning his rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville today. That means it's possible he could rejoin #Reds when they face the Dodgers at GABP this weekend.

They don't know if he can actually play yet. If he starts for Louisville and they have to shut him down, no harm done. If he starts for Cincinnati and they have to shut him down, then he has to start the 10-day injured list period all over again.

Kind of what made the Senzel situation odd. He was playing regular in LOU and seemed about ready to go. Then he was optioned down - no word of an injury except Pat Kelly saying he was favoring the knee some - and didn't report for 3 days. Then, and only then, he is put back on the IL and sent to Arizona. Still think there were some shenanigans there.

This is something that I've always wondered. I get it with pitchers...but hitters? Could Winker right now be possibly worth than what we are running out there in LF everyday? Hopefully we see him by the weekend.

Understood - but in 10 days, with the dreck Bell plays in LF, the Reds may not be in the hunt anymore. I'd rather have the rehab be in Pittsburgh at this point in the season (if they hadn't extended the AAA season, they wouldn't have had an option).

Jesse Winker went 0-2 with a K on his rehab assignment in Memphis tonight with Louisville. He was pinch hit for in what would have been his 3rd at-bat. That's been the standard operating procedure for the Reds on their rehab assignments this year, so I wouldn't read into it
