The #Reds today recalled from Triple-A Louisville IF Alejo Lopez, selected from Louisville the contract of OF Delino DeShields and appointed RHP R.J. Alaniz as the 29th man for the second game of today's doubleheader.

Lets hope DeShields is in LF game 2 against the LH and Cabrera is at 3B.

7 man bench the rest of the way. I like having options off the bench. Seems like it is the 1970s again when teams used to carry 7 guys on the bench.

David Bell says DeShields could get a start as early as today in the second game. Calls it a "strong possibility" against LH starter Happ.

No idea how DeShields will do. But he will provide speed and I imagine better defense than Aquino.

Jose Barrero wasn't eligible to be called up yet. Players who are optioned to the minors must spend 10 days off the big-league roster unless replacing an injured player (or some exceptions like a player on the paternity list).

Guessing he gets called for Lopez when eligible then.

I like having Lopez and Cabrera since they are both switch hitters. For obvious reasons two switch hitters on the bench is helpful. Previous to Cabrera Reds had zero switch hitters on bench.

Deshields gives Reds a RHH center fielder to platoon with Naquin or possibly allow Aquino to stay on the bench. Makes sense against lefties, DeShields hits decently against lefties (more so than against RHP).

Good lineup, glad Bell brought out the "A" lineup for this game. Maybe Schrock is controversial, but everything else should be agreeable to RZ. I'm assuming Stephenson starts game 2.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Sadly Deshields is better against RHP than LHP.

As the roster stands now with no Winker. I think Schrock is the best choice for LF and sadly Deshields might be the best against LHP. Even though he hits RHP better.
Hear Stephenson has been working out in LF. But I don't really see how that helps. Tucker would then be starting against a LHP. Anything that puts Suarez and Aquino on the bench is fine with me. Both are only hurting this team right now.

My advice is the same as yesterday and even more important in 7 inning games, don’t immediately fall behind in the first inning!
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

So here's a good question.. does a 7 inning game help the Reds or Cards more?
I honestly think it helps the Cards more, their bullpen has been pretty bad, our revamped pen is better.
This is not predicting a loss or anything like that..

    Lifetime .717 OPS v lefties. .640 v righties.

Lifetime BA/OBP/SLG/OPS all better against LHP.

Lifetime 115 OPS+ against lefties. 92 against righties.
