    9/2 Minor League Game Notes

Louisville started early today, as they have two games scheduled. Reiver San Martin toes the rubber for Game I, and, like he has been most of the season, he's been fairly impressive so far. 4.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K. That's pretty solid. On the year between Chattanooga and Louisville, Sanmartin's got a 9.6 K/9 and a 2.2 BB/9. That comes along with a 3.06 ERA. (And that may drop if tonight is any indication.) Sanmartin's only given up 7.6 H/9 as well. No clue about his stuff-- his scouting report is way out of date.

Among three HR is SS Jose Barrero's 12th AAA dinger and Brantley Bell's first. (No joke, Bell has been the Bat with the most PAs at 1B-- and it's his first HR on the season. Sigh.) Mike Freeman also hit a round tripper.

Louisville's up 5-1 in the bottom of the 4th.

Shut the door on Sanmartin. 5 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K. That's a pretty odd but effective line. I'll certainly take it for the 25-year-old southpaw.

Art Warren has also pitched an inning of flawless baseball. So that's good news.

    Bats lead, 5-2.

Christian Roa is taking the hill for the Dragons tonight. His last start was an absolute stinker. 4 ER in 5 IP. The one before that was worse-- 5 ER in 3 IP. He's been better early today. The Dragons gave him a one-run cushion in the first. Michael Siani has a single and a SB (and a CS). Matt McLain has a double and an RBI.

The Fort Myers Mighty Mussels jumped all over 2021 19th rounder Ryan Cardona. The Marist grad has allowed 3 in 2 IP. This is his first start in low A, fwiw, after a couple games in Arizona to get his feet wet. The 'Tugas have gotten one back on a Leonardo Seminiti triple and a groundout.

The Chattanooga Lookouts are knotted at nil early. Brian Rey has a single and is currently on second base after a wild pitch. Matt Lloyd has walked, so the Lookouts are indeed threatening.

Dauri Moreta slams the door for his 5th save in as many chances, as Louisville prevails, 5-2. Moreta has yet to give up an earned run in Louisville. That seems impressive, right? Sure, it's "only" 20.2 IP and 18 games, but that seems like it might be prettay prettay good, right?

    Discussion Question:

Why has Dauri Moreta largely been ignored this season by Cincinnati brass actively searching for relief help?

Both Rey and Lloyd did indeed score. Francisco Urbaez, who's apparently gone full Simpsons' episode Mystery Spot, singled.

Christian Roa is now out of the game, and he fared much, much better in his 4.0 IP this time around. 1 H, 0 ER, 5 BB, and 5 K.

    Dragons still lead, 1-0.

This is not the night for long pitching appearances, but it might be the night for effective ones. Riley O'Brien only went 4 innings in Game Two for Louisville. He allowed 7 BBs and hit a batter. But he scattered two hits and left without a Sound scoring. The Bats lead Game Two, 2-0 in the 5th.

The Dragons have dented the dish twice more. Matt McLain has three of their nine hits and all three RBI. He's now hitting over .300 in High A.

Dragons lead by three after the bottom of the 8th.

Chattanooga won, 3-1 to bring their overall record to 50-48. Lorenzo Cedrola (2-4 with his 7th HR of the season), Wilson Garcia (3-4), and Brian Rey (2-4) were the big boppers on the night. The bullpen threw 5.1 innings of two-hit, shutout baseball. Daniel Duarte dominated for his third save.

Fort Myers and Daytona was suspended in the bottom of the 3rd and will be made up tomorrow.

Sanmartin could be an interesting swingman for the Reds next season. He throws strikes and limits homers, a good recipe for GAB.

O'Brien has been a huge disappointment, but at least Cody Reed has been equally as bad for the Rays.

Also 5 for 6 in SB which is a nice surprise to see.

Confounding. Is he on the 40 man?

No, but he's due for free agency if he isn't added this year. I don't see any way he won't be added, but stranger things have happened.

Edit: The same could be said for Reiver Sanmartin, too.

Edit2: Mark Kolozsvary Alfredo Rodriguez, Nick Howard, and TJ Friedl are doubtful-but-slightly-possible to be added. However I expect Hunter Greene, Moreta, and Sanmartin to be the only prospects who will be added to the 40-man this year.
