I would like to see David do whatever it took to get both Schrock and Stephenson in the lineup everyday. Honestly, I have confidence in those two regardless of who's on the mound. We REALLY need to win this series. GO REDS!!!

Yeah. They need to win a series if they're serious about talking playoffs.

I have examined the standings and found that if you watched the Reds play 1,000 games and they won 529 of them that you too might think the odds of winning is 50-50 on any given game.

(Regardless of how bad of a fan people think I am).

You can't control what happened yesterday, nor can you control what might happen tomorrow.

Making today the biggest game of the year

    win a series for once!
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Wednesday marks the rubber match of the three-game set and is also the final meeting of the teams this year. Cincinnati leads 11-7 through the first 18 games of the season series.

    Reds RHP Vladimir Gutierrez (9-6, 4.17 ERA) makes his 19th start as a rookie. He has a 1.33 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 through 99 1/3 IP.

Gutierrez has allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in 12 of his 18 outings. The Reds are 7-3 on the road in his starts.
He has not made it out of the fourth inning in either of his last two starts and has an ERA of 11.37 in those 6 1/3 innings.

    Cubs RHP Alec Mills (6-6, 4.25 ERA) makes his 16th start and 28th appearance. He has a 1.41 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 6.7 K/9 through 95 1/3 IP.

He is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA in 12 2/3 innings pitched against the Reds across two starts and one relief appearance.
The Cubs are 6-9 this season when he starts.

If Gutierrez keeps the badly-timed walks and HR's down, we should win.

In the category of not letting the best hitter beat you, a few well placed walks (Happ) might be the best strategy...

Aside from the out scoring your opponent strategy which I have never seen fail.

The number that has saved Vlad, as a low strikeout, pitch-to-contact starter, is his 15.7% LD rate. It’s quite low and perhaps not sustainable.

All Reds other starters have LD rates considerably higher (generally good as a group, around 20% with Miley 23.5%).

Hopefully, Vlad will keep that low LD rate going for tonight and the rest of this season.

Nick seems to be expanding the strike zone a lot lately. Gotta get him back to locking in and driving the ball

Do Not Pitch To Happ. Period.

Our guy with a .465 on base percentage in the first inning does his typical good job of leading off, but after the next 2 batters there were 3 outs!
