Welsh says hitters don't see ball well off Mahle... yet he throes a million pitches in 5 innings

Mahle just won't ever change so guess there is no reason to hope he does. Just going to be a dude with average control who throws a thousand pitches an inning and taxes your bullpen most times out.

Mahle and Castillo are very similar.. good stuff, but can lack control and are not pitch efficient.

Might as well start setting up the pen for innings 6-9 if not earlier.

It feels like in every good Mahle start people complain about the pitch count early and then he still manages to go 6 strong innings.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Agree... but we need guys like him and Luis to go 7 imo. Bullpen needs to be used as little as possible

Yeah, he at least usually gets to five.

Lester is definitely getting farther off the edge than Mahle is. Seems that way at least.

    Team is so slow.

It's kind of ridiculous. Mahle has been a top-20 pitcher in baseball this year and all people do is gripe about it.

Would be top 10 if he didn't struggle with pitch count though.
