Eh, I like Mahle. He has been quite good this year. Discussing how inefficient he can be at times during a game he is pitching seems reasonable.

Yeah every single game he has a 20 plus pitch inning. Without fail. He could be going 7 or even 8 with a 100 pitches if he would just avoid the one inning. Then you use only two relievers instead of four.

Looks like the same pitch Lester has gotten three times already. Maybe a touch farther out though.

Thanks for proving my point pre and after-post.

So you would rather he not improve? His biggest weakness.

So posters are now getting angry at other posters for being critical about Mahle’s consistently high pitch counts? Nothing anyone posted is off base or even inaccurate. It’s a legitimate issue for him.

Every one of these game threads devolves into one group of posters who make critical remarks about players (yes, oftentimes baseless) and another group of posters who criticizes the first group. Both of these factions are no stranger to hyperbole and baseless ad hominem attacks. Every night. It’s more predictable than the Reds looking lost against a junk tossing lefty.
“The crows seem to be calling my name,” thought Caw.

I like Mahle as he is. If he starts throwing more in the zone, he will probably allow more runs. He doesn’t give in to hitters. He isn’t afraid to go deep in the count or walk somebody.

Over time, he’ll refine his approach and maybe throw a few less pitches.

I'd rather not come here and nitpick our very best players and complain about the smallest problems on a team with problems. Seems counter-productive. I come here to discuss the good and the bad, but sometimes with you new guys it just feels like piling on. It's depressing. Mahle is a damn good pitcher. He's not perfect, but he's better than 90% of the league's starting pitchers.

    This place has become miserable.

Check my posts and see how often I pile on Reds players. Sorry I didn't join in 2004. And I am not piling on Mahle at all. Simply stating he struggles with pitch count. Every person in baseball knows he does.
