I was thinking this yesterday. Gray looks to be peaking at the right time. Not sure the Reds will have the benefit of lining up pitching matches, but if they can I would go with Sonny.

Mahle on the road for 5 innings would be a good backup option.

I agree. If they are lucky enough to back into the last WC, I think I would put Sonny on the mound as well. He's a bulldog. Just one bad pitch in each of the last two games has cost him. I think he's the best option. Having said that, they will probably going with Molina's buddy, Castillo.

Win Nats series 2-1 lose Dodgers series 1-2 win Sox 2-1
Final remaining record 11-7 season record 86-76.

Nats is a four game set. Chisox is a two game series.

The Reds play Pittsburgh 9 times. Half the remaining schedule is arguably the worst team in the NL. I like the Reds chances. If the Reds schedule was that Pittsburgh heavy to start the year or in the middle of the year, they’d likely be 4 or so games up right now and we’d not be sweating it.

There is no solace in the Reds’ schedule at this point. The Cards and Phils can each point to significant opportunities in their upcoming schedules. And six of the Reds’ games against Pittsburgh are on the road.

I post the upcoming schedules to give a sense of the matchups. But nobody gets a W looking at the schedule. Reds have to play significantly better baseball or they will be making tee times very soon.

I get that it’s just board chatter, but the baseball gods don’t like assumptions. Failed playoff runs are littered with losses to teams that “should have” beaten. I continue to have lucky shirts and change seats in my family room when things aren’t going well watching a Reds telecast.
