Here's to hoping Winker's return gives this team a jolt offensively.

I get Bell's thinking: you may as well put as many bats in your lineup as you can given how bad they've been at the plate, defense be damned. It's not like putting another option in CF improves the defense that much anyway.

Agree. I would rather see Schrock's bat in the lineup over Shogo. Get the lead and let Shogo come in later for Defense.

DeShields in CF would improve the defense markedly.

Shogo is apparently dealing with an injury, but DeShields should be available.

Jesse Winker is back in the Reds lineup, but in a new spot — center field. Shogo Akiyama has a sore hamstring and will be available off the bench, but not available to start. Max Schrock will be in left field. Tyler Naquin was placed on the IL today.

Jesse Winker: "I'm good enough to come here and lace it up. There is no damn excuse. I don’t care about the amount of at-bats I got. I don’t care about the time I missed. It doesn’t matter to me. I’m here. I believe I can help the team win."

I would rather have Schrock's bat in the lineup. Castillo usually gets ground balls. Hopefully the OF defense doesn't come into play. Get a lead and bring in DeSheilds.

Man that Reds defense screams Beer League Softball!
“The guys we've had for the most part have been serviceable at this level.”

Poster’s comment was “it’s not like putting another option in CF improves the defense that much anyway.”

I responded to that comment because I disagree with it.

If you want to forego a better OF defense for half the game, that’s a judgment call. Brewers would go with the defender in CF, they’ve shown that. Reds aren’t hitting, I get their decision, but it’s questionable IMO.

I would rather Castellanos and Schrock be swapped. That would help minimize balls in play that Schrock has to deal with. This lineup should be able to put up more than a run.

Reds did pretty well against Buehler back in April.

He's also pitched a ton this year, so let's hope he's tired.

You want to play two players out of position and that will make the defense better in theory?

    I'd say not likely

I feel like the most “2021 Reds” thing to do is sweep the Dodgers here…

Is this the worst outfield defense ever fielded?
