I think DeShields will stick around, at least until spring of next season. He’s put up a .900 OPS as a Red this season, provides much needed speed, and more importantly, provides plus defense in CF.

I'm afraid of that too. They'll probably pencil him in as the starter and he'll have a .550 OPS next year.

I don't think they are going to release anyone with less than a week to go -- it's just bad business, especially if they can manipulate the roster in other ways. For example, it might be time to shut Vlad down this year, anyway. He looks like he's hit the wall.

Why does everyone talk like DeShields is terrible? He hasn't looked bad in limited action, and his numbers have been much better than Aquino or Shogo.

I know this isn't saying anything good about him. But he is better than Shogo. I imagine they dump both Shogo and Aquino. Shogo may end up wanting to go back home and they can sell his contract. He has to know by now he can't hit MLB pitching. If he wants to play it is going to have to be back home.

I doubt that, but he’s worth a 40 man roster spot this off season.

I agree with you. Move tomorrow will be Vlad to IL with arm fatigue.

Lets say he is healthy for the most part the next two years. Plays 280 games in two years. Does he pass Bench? That would be one HR for every six games played to tie him. Provided he hits zero rest of this week. That is tough to hit one every six games on average.

If he can get in 140 games each of the next two seasons he has a good shot to pass Bench. Far from a lock to do it though.

He's hit 34 this year, and he is 70 behind Bench meaning he'd have to hit 35 both years. He's hit over 35 twice, in 2010 and 17. I say it ain't happening.
