The Reds will turn that down, but if Votto is still producing, they will just sign him to a more reasonable extension.

Stupid work intervened and I missed Suarez's HR. So not to slight him:

    It's a 20 million dollar option but with a 7 million buyout.

So the calculus for the Reds would be...is he worth 13 million?

Of course it all depends on what he does from now to them. He could drop off a cliff at anytime, but if he is worth keeping at all for 2024 they probably just exercise the option. If he isn't worth the 13 million they just let him go.

Good point. But $13M is a lot for a 40 year old DH. That’s what Nelson Cruz is getting and I doubt Votto will be that good two years from now.

You’re correct that how is producing will factor greatly. My guess is Votto will be a valuable lefty DH against RHP, but not an everyday player. I can see the Reds offering him a 2 year, $20M extension that includes his buy out.

I predict he ends up at 99 just to annoy me.

Good job. Kid has good presence on the mound. Great smile too.

Does his pitching remind anyone of Tom Hall?
