    Must Win Games?

The last two games were "must win" in order to get into the playoffs, and Bell decides to give two rookie starting pitchers their major league debut?
    Huh? Huh-uh. Oh yeah, uh-huh.

He had one pitcher on the IL, the other on the berevement list. What did you expect, the Reds to pick up a scrap heap vet off the waiver wire?
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

If it WAS the playoffs, then Bell does something different (e.g. start someone on short rest, start Hoffman or Santillan....). Don't you agree? So that is what I would "expect" in these last two must win games as well.

Oh come on! Sanmartin pitched well and got the win (whereas Miley was hurt and has been struggling in recent starts). Riley did poorly, but Castillo was not available.

And when you say 'must win', you are really stretching the truth. Before yesterday's game the Cards elimination number was 1, and since they won their 17th in a row, the Reds were eliminated from wild card contention before the Red's game was even over. Monday's game against the Pirates the Reds won in a blowout, so the starting pitcher choice played no role.

The true 'must win' games were earlier in the month....

The unstretched truth is that losing either game eliminates the team from the playoffs.

You have got to be kidding me

We’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel here these days.

Shouldn't the goal be to win the rest of our games, in case the Cardinals team gets a month long case of food poisoning eliminating them from the playoffs and giving the next best team the 2nd WC slot? What is Bell doing? I'm friggin' tired of this.

Should have stopped trying to win every game long ago when it was obvious the Cardinals would win 17 in a row .

In case you missed it, the Cardinals won last night. So the Reds were eliminated anyway no matter if they had won.

Both of those guys pitched out of the pen in recent days. Castillo had an emergency that couldn't be planned on. Miley ran out of gas. So unless they wanted to go with a bullpen, which would have been a terrible choice, IMO they really didn't have much choice than an unproven minor leaguer. Or they could have tried Welsh or Brantley out of the booth. They have plenty of experience.
