Not a bad idea. But Tampa Bay is ahead of us.

Agent Scott Boras said only 17 teams, at the most, are currently trying to win in 2022.

My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

    From Cincinnati.com:

So, how many of the 17 clubs building toward a championship reside in the NL Central?

“I think you know the answer to that,” Boras said.

I wonder how this will effect the free agent market. It may not effect it much, as most of those 17 team wouldn’t be big players in free agency even when they are trying to win, but if you know that you are only competing against a few teams, do you feel the need to pay big for talent?

Cardinals maybe the Brewers and possibly the Cubs (think they are more 2023+)

Despite the constant Castellini is cheap cacophony, as expected, this is an accelerating league wide trend. Following the Covid years and CBA expiration with only a few teams taking on more payroll and being serious a1 and a2 calibar FA destinations in 2022. At least six teams passed on Miley via waivers before the Cubs.

What's the word on the Brewers? They were a $99M payroll last year and have some guys due for big raises in 2022 (Hader, Woodfruff, etc.) and quite a bit more into 2023. Assuming they go to $110-115M next season they are going to have some decisions to make as a lot of their younger core is going to get expensive soon.
