Joey vs. Johnny: Reds' all-time HR race

i used to think no way votto would catch johnny. but now? oh yeah, we've got an entertaining debate at the very least.

johnny bench: 389 career home runs.

joey votto: 331 career HRs (with at least 2 seasons left to play).

will joey catch and surpass johnny for the reds' all-time HR lead? i say yes, but it will be very close.

Breaking that record has become meaningless to me. Heck, make JB's record 399 since he hit 10 post season HRs(those 10 homers are all bigger than any one that Joey's hit).

And let's face it, the Reds home run record should be held by Frank Robinson, but because of a bunch of suits, he doesn't have it.

If you want to use that logic, you could say it should belong to Adam Dunn by saying he was traded too soon.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Only if Dunn had hit as many career homers as Robby. He didn't.

But it’s not career MLB home runs, it’s home runs as a Red. Was Robby a better hitter than Bench? I think so. But that doesn’t change who hit more home runs as a Red.

Votto may catch him but it won’t be in two years. Personally, I don’t see it happening at all. But I’ll be happy if he does.

I think he hits another 30+ next year. If the NL gets the DH he can probably do that for 3 years. I can honestly see him retiring with 400 HR's.

It's going to be a challenge, but it would be sweet to see Votto reach 400 all as a member of the Reds.

Can Votto catch Bench? Yes. However history would suggest that Bench was better at catching than nearly anyone.

    FTFY...no qualifier needed.
