    Re: Shidlt Out

He has a year left on his contract, so there must have been some serious philosophical differences.

I’m curious to hear both sides of this story.

Amazing, the difference between organizations. The Reds extend Bell for ALMOST making the playoffs, and the Cardinals fire Shildt for losing IN the playoffs.

From 2015 through 2017, Bell served as the Cardinals' bench coach, if he had not left to work for the Giants he likely would have been offered the managerial job instead of Shildt

No Shidlt, I'm pretty amazed at this one because I think he did a great job turning coal into diamonds - that pitching staff was put together with band aids and chewing gum.

Shildt had one other lesson to learn before the Cardinals cleared the way to their major-league staff. Born and bred in the infield dirt, a lifelong teacher of the intricacies and psychology of the game, he had to learn the driving force for Major League Baseball in the Information Age.

He needed a lesson in analytics. The first draft Shildt was included in was run by Mozeliak and attended by scouting director Jeff Luhnow, who was the tiebreaker when the team was debating between a pair of possible draft picks.

By 2010, Shildt noticed his scouting reports on his players at Johnson City came with statistical projections for the upcoming season. The team had compiled them based on what they did in extended spring training and in their college or high school careers.

If Shildt succeeds as Cardinals manager and earns a contract extension, he will have cut a unique path. According to ESPN, only six MLB managers since 1900 didnt play a day of professional baseball. Two of them, Ted Turner and Judge Fuchs, were owners who hired themselves. Ed Barrow lasted the longest, but his final season was 1920. The most recent of them, Carlos Tosca, lasted three seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, finishing with a .500 record.

Ive called Shildt "The Dave Miley of St Louis" but all that aside, no way did I think the guy would be fired.....after winning 17 in a row and making the playoffs.

Good thing we locked Bell up for 2 more years, wouldnt want the Cardinals poaching him

    Re: Shidlt Out

Seems cheap to say he was fired because the Cardinals “demand better” when everything so far indicates it was a personnel clash and not performance related but I guess it’s an easy way to score points. I’m seeing even Yankees fans who want Boone fired doing it lol.
I dont care, Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. Hes in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.
