    Happy for Dusty

I'm sure that many reading this board will think I'm crazy, but as much as I gave Dusty hell in every game thread, Tonight made me miss him. Once he was fired for not winning in the post season or whatever, I miss the enthusiasm. He was replaced by a neophyte who didn't have a clue. The team went through a so-called rebuild, and the winning ways weren't seen for more than a half decade. A guy who was a winning manager, and couldn't keep a job. He's 72, but when I see the guy who was replaced by a dud, and the team tanked, it tells me all I need to know about ownership.

Big Dusty fan so on some level I do agree. But I freaking hate the Astros man.

I've also grown to appreciate Dusty more. Price and Bell don't hold a candle to him when it comes to managing personalities.

Also, seeing what analytics has done to the game makes me nostalgic for people like Dusty. People like him have been replaced by advanced statistics and equations. It's a lot more fun to root for someone like Dusty than an advanced mathematic formula. I kinda feel like it's that old Jurassic Park line when it comes to analytics, "you were so busy wondering if you could. You never stopped to ask if you should."

I survived his tenure as the Red's manager

I wish him only the best.

Dusty was the best Reds’ manager since Lou. He overcame so much loser inertia in this organization.

Johnny B has just as much swag in his 70’s as any player today. Awesome to see him get his team to the WS…I’ll be rooting for him to finally get a ring!

Wish it wasn't with the Astros, but I'm also really happy for Dusty. Baseball needs more Dusty Bakers.

I would rank Davey Johnson and maybe Jack McKeon ahead of him, but I am definitely pro-Dusty, and he undoubtedly belongs in the "good manager" group for the Reds.
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

Nah, Dusty has had more consistent success than either of them. And neither of them had to dig the franchise out of a decade of being total losers and embarrassments. He was the shot of adrenaline to the heart this organization needed. He was a great manager.

I'm a big Dusty fan. Quite honestly, wish he was still managing the Reds.

I can take or leave Dusty as Manager (you could say that for all Managers since I think their impact is way overblown), but I like Dusty the person, so I hope he gets his ring.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Neither Johnson or McKeon or even Dusty is in the Reds Hall of Fame. My favorite, Fred Hutchinson, is. Hutch was special and had a lot more to give
    before he left us.

I want the Reds to hold onto the label of being the only NL team to win back to back World Series since the early 1920s. I also believe Dusty is overrated because he never manages a team that's not already built and ready to peak and also believe he's lost in the post season with the better team too many times to count.

    Therefore, GO Braves!!!

I would say it’s more nuanced than you’ve portrayed things…. INMO, yes, a team usually hires DB when they’re on the cusp of being really good - moving from good to actually competing for a title. As others have mentioned, he was hired by the Reds in this scenario. The Reds had a good young team and they needed a manager that could effect change and get them to the next level. Someone serious and with a track record. He was hired by the Astros to effect the cultural change of an already really good team - both internally and externally. He was hired to right the ship and get them back to the WS.

If in some dreamland he was available to the Reds again and they hired him; IMHO, it would signal to the team, fans, media that they were ready to be serious…. In general, this is why managers with experience and who know how to win are hired - see Larusa, Tony

I agree that Reds would be better off had they kept Dusty. His teams hold together.

Not sure Reds would have paid him when they were rebuilding. But I’m confident he would have handled that situation as well as the current ballclub.
