Solid player, but not really sure how he would have helped the 2021 Reds.
It all depends on how you look at it, but Sims really hasn't done much compared to Duvall.
It's not Duvall's fault he was parked in AAA and then released.. Maybe it just means the Braves were dumb.
No one makes a trade, thinking.. gee, I bet this guy will get nontendered in 2 years, then we can get him back for free.

Sure, Duvall would have helped the 2021 Reds.. He could have taken a significant number of at bats that went to Shogo, Aquino, Friedl, and Schrock (as an OF)
How can you say he wouldn't have helped the Reds? He could have played CF just as well as Naquin did, and the Reds were desperate for RH hitting this year.
He would have helped the Reds more than Sims did (even if Sims was healthy all year)/

I mean, it's kind of like your Barnhart argument, he's talent, so why not have him? . and the 2021 Reds could have used another RH bat.

Plus all the OF starters do not play ever game, injuries happen, etc.

Yes. Both you and the Reds are missing the World Series.

Had a pretty big regular season to help Braves win the division. Got some key hits in the post-season.

    Duvall did all right.

Naquin, Schrock and Friedl all had a higher OPS than Duvall did this year.

Duvall 772 OPS in 555 at bats
Schrock is not an outfielder. But he had an 776 OPS in only 125 at bats.. His horrible defense in the OF is not worth the extra .004 OPS. Plus, can he maintain that over a whole season.
Friedl ? Come on, he only had 31 at bats , you know that OPS is not a good sample size.
Therefore, I reject the assertion that Friedl and Shrock were better.

    Naquin had a solid year.
Reds could have used a solid RH hitter like Duvall. All three of the guys you listed are left handed.

Might be a good option to stick in RF. The defense plays and he’ll run into a few homers. And likely be affordable.

He would need to be non-tendered to be available. It might happen.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Oh. Wasn’t aware of the contract status. But the Braves have a pretty stacked outfield. I’d jump on it if he is non tendered.

Why do you think Duvall would be affordable? He had 38 homers and league leading 113 RBI playing in Miami and Atlanta. He won the Gold Glove.

MLBTR has Duvall at $9.1 million in arbitration. (Miley was waived by the Reds at $10 million to align payroll.)

BTW, Duvall just declined a $7 million mutual option with the Braves. His agent seems pretty confident.

Compared to Castellanos. You could get damn near similar WAR at far less cost. Estimates for Cast are around 20M. Bet Duvall could be had in the 10-12 range.
