Passing on Tucker’s option is a good move IMO. Glad they got a lotto ticket back.

I hope Tucker does well, but I think this is the correct move especially on a team with payroll concerns.

Tucker probably had little trade value because of the team option. $7.5 million is a full price for Tucker. Tigers are now committed to pay that if they exercise, which seems likely. They obviously think he’s worth it.

From Reds’ perspective the main point is they decided not to exercise and to let go of Tucker. Once that decision is made, the trade is minor - they save the $500 K buyout and get a small return.

Shorter Krall quote: you shouldn't get your hopes up because payroll is being cut further and the savings are headed right for Castellini's pocket.

What a cheap organization. It’s so hard to be a Reds fan.

Best of luck to Tucker. Dude played to the best of his ability and had a good tenure with the Reds.

I wish Tucker the very best. We lived in Brownsburg, IN for 8 years and I was the Varsity Baseball pitching coach there for a few years. Got to know Tucker as he worked out at a local baseball facility in the winters when he was in the minors and when he was with the Reds. Just a super individual from a super family. My very best to Tucker and his dad, Kevin. Miss seeing them since we moved to Carolina.

Tigers make the Tucker Barnhart trade official. Here are statements from Al Avila and Barnhart

I expected Reds to try and get younger and cheaper. It’s a little tough to read it in print, I’ll admit.

The question is whether Reds will force the issue by trading more veterans for young assets. Like starting pitching, for example.

Tucker was solid for the Reds but when he was in the lineup there just wasn’t enough hitting. It will be good to see Tyler become the main man. More Tyling, less Tucking. But I can’t wait to go to the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum to see the Payroll-Resources Alignment Trophy.

Part of the Reds statement from GM Nick Krall. ..."going into 2022, we must align our payroll to our resources and continue focusing on scouting and developing young talent from within our system." #reds

After seeing this I doubt they will exercise their option on Miley. Or anyone else who has an option like that. Also expect another starting pitcher to go for some magic beans.
