Moving on from Tucker was the right move, however, these words from Krall: woof
What would you say.....ya do here?

If they don't exercise that option, Bob Castellini should be forced to sell the team.

    Yikes
    That's....not good.

Guessing they will also trade Miley, unload one of Suarez/Moose and then add a few bargains toward the end of the winter. Ugh.

Their only problem unloading Suarez/Moose is the price Reds would have to pay. Prospects and money.

I still think either Miley or Gray will be traded, so we agree there.

I believe the option decisions, Castellanos, Miley, are due over the next five days.

I never read too much into Krall’s words, he’s been shown to be rather inarticulate. He could just be trying to say that the Reds want to move on from a high priced veteran to a home grown young player. He could be signaling more cuts, too. I’m not going to jump to any conclusions from some awkwardly worded GM speak, especially from him.

Appreciate everything Barnhart did in Cincy. Sorry to see him go, but this was the right move. Glad to see the FO being proactive and moving quickly.

The trade return suggests the Reds weren't planning to offer him a contract this year.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

That’s fair. At the end of the day, I’m not so concerned about what approach they take. I’m more concerned with the quality of the players added and subtracted.

It’s a decent return considering they were not going to pick up his option. Instead of getting nothing for him, they get a recent #2 pick for him (47th overall) and don’t have to pay his $500K buy out. I honestly didn’t think they were going to be that forward thinking.

Re: Tucker Barnhart Traded to Detroit Tigers

Good move. Tucker was good a few years ago but can't believe anyone thought he was worth the 7.5M option for 2021.

On payroll, the Reds have gotten less return (playoff apperances and wins) of any team that has treaded in the #13-20 payroll range for the last decade. They haven't been cheap just mismanaged on resources and results...

Tucker Barnhart had been the 2nd-most senior member of the Reds, having made his Reds debut on April 3, 2014.

With his departure, Aristides Aquino now moves into the Top 10.

    1. Joey Votto (9/4/07)
    2. Michael Lorenzen (4/29/15)
    3. Eugenio Suarez (6/11/15)
    4. Brandon Finnegan (9/11/15)
    5. Amir Garrett (4/7/17)
    6. Jesse Winker (4/14/17)
    7. Luis Castillo (6/23/17)
    8. Tyler Mahle (8/27/17)
    9. Alex Blandino (4/10/18)
    10. Aristides Aquino (8/19/18)
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

Tucker Barnhart needed a career-best .324 BABIP just to produce just a .685 OPS last season. His K rate is well up, and some of those homers that left GABP aren't going out in Detroit. He's hit .223/.308/.343 outside of GABP the last 3 yrs. The defense better be very good.

Re: Tucker Barnhart Traded to Detroit Tigers

The biggest winner in this trade is Barnhart himself. I doubt he would have received $7.5 million as a free agent. He is likely to get that from Tigers.

I guess there’s some chance Tigers negotiate him down from that number, but seems unlikely.

I'm not going to get worked up over what Krall said, but it is like he surveyed the different statements he could make and then chose the worst one.

Next up, Krall says "Baseball isn't all that important to the future of the Cincinnati Reds. We need to think about reducing the number of mascots and providing higher-priced, worse-tasting food at the ballpark going into 2022. Also, I hate kittens and puppies"
