No surprise but Nick has officially opted out

Nick Castellanos opts out. Castellanos, 29, had .309/.362/.576 slash line this year. Had $34M and 2 years to go. Now a free agent. #reds

So long, Cast, and thanks for all the fish.

This is as surprising as the sun came up this morning. Way too much money for the Reds to spend. Of course $1.98 would be too much for them. Thanks Cast for a good ride while it lasted.

Of course he opted out. Who wouldn't?

Lol at the Reds for even agreeing to a contract like that.

Better to have him for 2 years with that contract then to insist on no opt-outs and not have him at all

This is right, he insisted on opt outs, Reds got two years out of it.

I’m guessing the Phillies or Mets for Cast.

Yeah, we knew it was coming. And we all know he’s not coming back.

We have that Senzel kid ready to step up.

This off-season is going to be a dismal affair.

Great news, franchise needs to start completely over. Too bad Votto is still tied up, that old man needs to GTFO as well.

    Re: Castellanos opts out

I'd like to opt out of my fandom until the organization gets bought by people who understand more than just $$$ in their own pockets. But alas, I'm an idiot and will come back to watch them try to go 81-81 next year.

He wanted a contract with flexibility. It would have been substantially more expensive had he not had opt outs.

I thought maybe you were being sarcastic...but then I looked up the past 20-30 forum posts for you. Talk about negativity. Holy cow.

In the NL this year, Votto finished in the top 4 for HRs, top 7 for RBIs, top 7 for BBs, top 4 for SLG, and top 5 for OPS.

    Yeah, he's the problem.
