They had days to make the decision. They couldn’t be patient. If they pick up the option, and the market doesn’t change, they are stuck with his contract. They clearly don’t want to pay him $10M.

Why would any team be willing to give up anything to the Reds now when they can just wait for the team to cut bait?

My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

Definitely not a good start to the offseason. If this is a sign of things to come, I feel really bad for Votto. It basically shuts the door on the possibility of him winning a championship.

My guess is that the Reds and other teams were looking at Miley’s final 11 starts of 2022.

    4.48 ERA, 5.16 FIP .873 OPS against. 22 BB 41 SO 10 HR.

Because he was never going to make it far down waivers and if you needed a reasonably priced SP you could have easily had it.

Don’t these jerks know I’m also a Washington Football Team fan? A man can take only so much.

Disgusting, blatant incompetence and a middle finger to every current fan, not to mention it sends a message that they don’t care one bit about luring in new fans. God I hope they read this board. Ahh who the hell cares, the Reds front office sure doesn’t, so why should I?

Wouldn't surprise me if he opened the door to a potential trade.

You’re telling me not one team would give up even just a prospect of any kind for Wade Miley @10 mil? I just can’t believe that.

Yes, I agree. Reds decided they couldn’t pay Miley $10 million and couldn’t gamble on getting stuck with the contract.

I thought Reds would trade either Gray or Miley and go younger on starting pitching. I didn’t anticipate just letting Miley go.

Where this hurts is that Miley’s well tailored to GABP. But we’ll just have to see whether Reds make some additions that help compensate for the subtractions of Cast, Miley and Barnhart.

Because they're cheap bastards. This is the exact same skinflint process that led them to trade Aroldis Chapman for a sack of turds. If clearcutting your payroll is the driving force, then forget about running a capable baseball team. A good organization could and would be patient. Also wouldn't tip its desperation as the Reds obviously have done.

as i've been saying, what the reds do with miley will send a clear signal in terms of their intentions for 2022.

their intentions: throw in the towel before the calendar even hits 2022.

Watch the Cubs trade Miley at the deadline for a top 100 prospect. Guaranteed.

Call the switchboard and register your displeasure - its 513-765-7000. I told them they should just sell the team and move it to Montreal if they aren't going to try. I told the poor guy who answered the phone, Christian, that they'll probably get rid of him next because he costs too much.

It's a shame these idiots ever got to buy the team in the first place. Tampa Bay is laughing at them.

He had a great season, but faltered at the end, and is about to turn 35 years old. Maybe not the best $10M bet. I don’t like it, but understand it.

The key like last year is if they use this money saved to add talent elsewhere, and they absolutely need talent in areas other than starting pitching. I know everyone assume they won’t based on last year, but I’ll wait to see what their plan is before getting too angry.

I would follow Votto, at least temporarily, to a new team as a fan. Not many guys I can say that about in any sport - only three active (Votto, Joe Burrow, Lebron, and with Lebron I'm still a Cavs fan.)

I guess I'd come back after he retired.

Votto in Toronto as a DH/backup 1B would be a lot of fun, love that roster.
