Rather than spending $3-5M dumpster diving for starters, I'd rather allocate those resources to an impact reliever and/or an impact OF bat and backfill with Gutierrez, Sanmartin, O'Brien, Santillan.

O'Brien is 27, Gutierrez and Sanmartin 26. Are they part of the future as starters or not? Hopefully Greene & Lodolo are ready by the time you find out

Anyone else wondering if the early returns on the Reds’ off-season are being driven by expectations over the pending labor negotiations? Perhaps they know something the rest of us don’t?

All the money should be spent marketing the team to potential buyers.

I was wondering this too. Maybe the Reds are stripping down because of there's a work stoppage, they don't have enough cash on hand to make it through another truncated season. Getting rid of salaries would be a way of mitigating that possibility.
