That's really tragic. Men's suicide rate has climbed recently.. In the 80's , the rate of men and women was approximately equal.. Now, the male rate is 4 times higher than women.
Of course, it's bad when a woman commits suicide too.. I am just saying, this is a crisis in the male community that has largely been ignored.
I don't want to risk saying something controversial, so I will not discuss it further than that, just wanted everyone to be aware. Look out for your fellow man.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Into the wind, holes forward (or up, though I found forward worked better) with a side-arm whip is unhittable. It moves slow and takes radical upward jumps. It's like the Bugs Bunny slowball.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

The Automated Ball-Strike system (ABS), the tech powering what's colloquially known as robo-umps, is inching ever closer to the big leagues.
The independent Atlantic League — which has partnered with MLB since 2019 last week announced it was doing away with robo-umps after testing them for the past season-and-a-half.

That wasn't because the experiment failed; on the contrary, the league explained that its own assessment of ABS was complete and that an MLB affiliate league would continue testing it.

Simple sleuthing all but confirms that ABS is coming to Triple-A in 2022. The ump still makes calls like check swings, interference and plays at the plate. ABS simply eliminates guesswork from the strike zone.

The time is drawing close to use this. I hope it works out because how the umpire calls a strike zone affects the game more than just about anything else on a day to day basis.

MLB’s website posted a hiring notice seeking seasonal employees to operate the Automated Ball and Strike system. MLB said it is recruiting employees to operate the system for the Albuquerque Isotopes, Charlotte Knights, El Paso Chihuahuas, Las Vegas Aviators, Oklahoma City Dodgers, Reno Aces, Round Rock Express, Sacramento River Cats, Salt Lake Bees, Sugar Land Skeeters and Tacoma Rainiers.

Not a fan of the automated strike zone. But it will be a hoot watching players arguing balls and strikes with a radar machine!

I'm low-key excited to see Votto demand that the robo ump be recalibrated.

I wonder if the umpires will still have to stand behind the catcher with all the gear a plate ump usually wears. They could stand off to the side on the 1st base side for a RH hitter and on the 3rd base side for a LH hitter.

Didn't know where to post this, didn't want to start a thread about it.

MLB’s minor-league housing policy has potential problems, says Advocates for Minor Leaguers: "the policy presents MLB teams the opportunity to cut costs rather than providing proper housing in any of three ways.”

Players are skeptical that MLB will take player concerns about the policy seriously or simply operate in good faith

Doug Glanville: Why I'm OK with Barry Bonds not being elected to the Hall of Fame

For weeks before the vote was announced, I imagined watching a parade of PED players walk up to the podium to tell us about their journey, knowing they represent a force that accelerated the demise of so many players who played it straight. Congratulations?
