1979 was a weird year, they won the division and that was great, but the team was a weird mix of creeping 1980's styles, fading vets and a lot going on.
It was like The Stones Only Rock n Roll album on the heels of the run of Beggars Banquet to Goats Head Soup, after that Taylor left and the band began a different era. The team just morphed into another reality

I could picture Blair's 1980 Topps card and knew he had only one year there, that's how I was able to piece that one together.

TCMA used to come out with all sorts of random, oddball sets. In 1977 they did one covering the 1939-40 Reds, and I knew DiMaggio wasn't on the 1940 team, so that gave it to me.
