    Michael Nesmith, R.I.P.

Michael Nesmith has passed away, age 78. His death leaves Mickey Dolenz as the only living member of "The Monkees," as Davy Jones and Peter Tork predeceased Nesmith. Nesmith wrote several songs recorded by The Monkees, including "Mary, Mary," and was the leader of the group's effort to be allowed to record their own songs. He later was a pioneer of the country-rock movement. He wrote "Different Drum" which was an early hit for Linda Ronstadt.
"Hey...Dad. Wanna Have A Catch?" Kevin Costner in "Field Of Dreams."

I saw Nesmith play at The Cavern at Ohio U circa 1972. His song “Joanne” was big at the time. He talked a little bit about his time with “that other band”. There were probably about 20 people there but he put on a good show.

RIP Michael. I always was a Monkees fan. Great pop music.

I was an obsessed Monkees fan as a kid, like an all-consuming love. This and Charlie Watts’ death are bringing me closer to the crypt in ways I hadn’t guessed.

The first cousin of my generation passed this week and it has me in a bit of reality mode.

Though- it makes me want to go quick, I tell you that.

Morbid but true: he was a truck driver, he went out to his garage to start his rig for the day and never came out. They found him slumped over. They looked at his dashcam footage and he literally died in a second. Poof, his head just went over and that was that.

That's a wonderful way to go but (I'm sure) far too early
