Reds linked to top international prospect Alfredo Duno

Fangraphs has updated their international prospect section of “The Board”, which is basically their prospect portal. One of the top rated players in the 2023 class is Alfredo Duno, a catcher from Venezuela. He is currently listed as projected to sign with the Reds.

Duno is noted by Fangraphs to have big time bat speed with a 30 home run ceiling. Defensively, he is like every teenage catcher on the planet – a long way down the development line. There’s a chance he winds up being a below-average defender and can remain at the position where his bat could play as one of the better ones around if it develops to it’s potential.

Love that the Reds have been able to identify and (pre-) sign young talent in Central America.

I also wonder how that may work if they sign a new CBA.

Red fan luck, they'll fold international free agents into a world-wide draft, Cincinnati will lose both of these guys, and they'll end up stars for the Dodgers or Yankees.

Haven’t heard that name in awhile. Yuck. The hype on him went on for so long. It’s rare when I’m the sane one but I remember being like “come on guys, it’s over, throw in the towel.” But it’s hard to defeat that endless prospect love.

I've gotten to the point where, until a player is productive in the majors, I consider him a suspect rather than prospect.

I feel like Yorman was hyped up more than most prospects. Particularly by a reds minor league blogger.

He and Juan Duran were by far the most expensive international amateur they had ever signed at the time. He was also Venezuelan (not Cuban) I believe.
