    Favorite "Non-Star" Reds

It's easy to love the guys making all-star teams and others producing at a high level. Who are your favorite Reds over the years who weren't stars (or may not have even been particularly good)? I call it my irrational fan list:

    Dave Burba
    Norris Hopper
    Jeff Keppinger

    Great thread topic.

Duane Walker was one such guy for me.

Scott Sullivan was a pitcher I loved-- competent in an era when no one on the staff could do much of anything. And dependable.

In recent years, I thought Curt Casali often got ignored as the more productive of the two Red catchers.

Are we separated at birth? I was also going to say Duane Walker (I vaguely remember the Star of the Game with him after he hit two HRs in the same game) and Scott Sullivan. So now I'll go with Jeff Reed and Chris Stynes.

Walker's 2 home runs in that game both came off Nolan Friggin' Ryan! https://www.baseball-reference.com/b...98208160.shtml

    I remember that game!

Big chaw of tobacco in his cheek. Solid D in RF. Good wheels.

Yeah, Duane Walker could do no wrong for me.

Ron Oester. I played Knothole ball in the early 1980s and played second base. Oester was the Reds second baseman st the time so I naturally liked him.

I even bought one of his home run balls at the 580 Gift Shop. He had hit it off John Montefusco. I still have it and the certificate in a drawer somewhere

.....Don't much care for him as a radio host, but I was a huge Tracy Jones fan back in the day. Prior to understanding exactly what platoon splits meant, I was sure he was going to be a full time player and join the 30/30 club.

Norris Hopper is another great choice. Talk about a player making the most of his skill set.

Ryan Hanigan was kind to my kids when he signed a ball in Dayton for them. The reds skimmed the cheap cream off his career and then when he got expensive and bad let other teams pay for it.

Crossing over into star territory Kevin Mitchel always seemed to enjoy playing the game.

I'll take my scorecard and pencil and beer and hot dog and rage at the dips and cheer at the highs, but I'm not ever going to stop loving this game and this team and nobody will ever take that away from me." Derek Dietrich and his zany antics were amusing in an otherwise forgettable 2019 season.

I was a big Duane Walker fan too. I thought he was going to be really good.

Scott Hatteberg is another name. Not an All Star but a good player.

Alex Ochoa. Because I couldn't stand Dante Bichette and wanted Ochoa to start over him but they wouldn't do that because the guy they mispay wins the job.
