    A true great.
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. -- Carl Sagan (Pale Blue Dot)

I went through a film appreciation phase ~15 years ago where I watched quite a few of his 80s movies and I always had that image of him in my mind. It wasn’t until I saw him pop up in one of the recent Marvel movies that I realized he had aged so much since those films. RIP.

Wow! I did not know he lived here in Portland.

He always had a calming presence, but he played it into so many varied roles. One of my favorite movies is "Sonnenschein" from 1999. He had a small part compared to some, but he was nominated for a supporting actor award in it; when he was on screen, it gave credence to any movie.

    Damn.

    Another succumbs to prostate cancer.

Can't keep putting off examinations (saying this to myself).

Make the appointment. Please. It’s just a little time out of your life.

I lost a brother in law to colon cancer. He knew he had troubles but put it off and put it off and by the time he finally got a routine colonoscopy, it was stage 4. 18 months later he was dead at 52. My sister was left with crushing debt and her life has never been the same since.

I was recently diagnosed with cancer. But I had a physician that I see on a regular basis. After ignoring a lump in my neck for a couple weeks, I said sh*t, I gotta call the doc. Many MRIs and CT scans and PET scans I was diagnosed. But it is stage 1 and I stand a 85-90% chance of being cured. As my doc said, “Bruce, you’ll die from something else. Not this”. He also said if you waited another 6 months, we’d be having a much different conversation.

I’m going through 7 weeks of radiation and chemo that is severely kicking my ass, but it’s a finite time with a good prognosis. Because I see my doctor regularly and wasn’t afraid to ask for help. So do a favor for your loved ones, go talk to your doctor.

Hopefully this summer sees you 100% healthy.
