    Weird baseball history

Nothing more fun than finding out that the history of baseball is peculiar.

The pitch clock discussion always comes back to short/long games -- and one that always fascinated me was May 1, 1920.
The Boston Braves and the Brooklyn Robins went 26 innings and had to quit with a 1-1 tie because it got dark.

What is bizarre is that the Braves got to take Sunday off on account of a blue law in Boston about not playing Sunday games.

The Robins went back home and had to play a 13-inning Sunday game (loss 4-3 to the Phils).

And ... on Monday, they went 19 more innings (actually 18 1/3) and losing 2-1, again at Boston. Not sure how a Phils game got stuck in there, but it appears Brooklyn needed a game for that day. "Hey, you guys busy on Sunday? Yeah ... Boston won't let us play." It appears it may also have been an easy chance to make up a rainout. There is a place in their schedule where that could have happened a few days earlier.

    Minutiae.

So 58 innings of ball in 3 days. Can you say PITCH COUNT? They did not use a reliever in any of these games.

Both guys in the 26-inning game estimated they threw about 300 pitches of generally low-stress.
