All,
GIK and I started this site nearly 22 years ago in April 2000, and honestly, it's hard to believe that much time has passed. Through some recent conversations, GIK has let me know that the time is right for him to move on from the site. Of course, that leads to the question of what do we do with it, and after several discussions, my current intention is purchase his share of the ownership and keep it running as is. He's done a ton of work behind the scenes that don't get noticed, so there will definitely be some transition on my part, but my goal is to make sure none of that affects the site's day to day operation. I don't know how long I plan to keep it running, as it isn't something I ever envisioned doing the rest of my life, but obviously I wouldn't be purchasing his share if I didn't intend to keep it running for the foreseeable future, as it's still something I enjoy on a personal level. My intent has never been to have this be some huge money maker that'd allow me to consider giving up my day job or anything along those lines, but obviously, it has to be profitable to allow the bills to be paid and worthwhile for us to do the work to keep it up and running.
As far as if anyone would like to help, the only suggestion I have is to purchase a site subscription if you're not already a subscriber. That will remove advertisements from your experience for one year and helps support the site by providing GIK with a little extra money before he transitions off and helps me offset a bit of the purchase price. In no way is the site's viability dependent on receiving subscriptions right now, so I don't want to give that impression at all, but that'd be the easiest way you can help that also provides you with something (no ads), so it's not simply a donation. Thanks to all our existing subscriptions, as it's something we've always appreciated. If anyone has any questions, let us know. Please also join me in thanking GIK and wishing him the best.
