Reds could have non-tendered Amir and kept Wade Miley for $1,000,000 more than they are paying Minor.

I'm not really hoping for that (those moves are an inevitability I dread), but it would make sense from a "why did they do that" perspective.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

I feel ok with this trade. Garrett had fire and all the tools but i think he was too much in his own head. What does this mean for our closer?

This appears to be a PR response to all the bad press they've received since the sell off, or they just would have kept Wade Miley.

Yeah, so this is a bit puzzling. Maybe there's more to this.

Another fun fact Minor's season ending last year because of shoulder issues.

So Money wise we would have been even non tendering Garret and keeping Miley only the Reds

Reds are paying 8.5M of Minor's salary like what was the point of Miley or the Gray trade then. This is what you get with a GM with no real idea what he is doing

I appreciate amir's attitude but honestly we couldn't trust him in high leverage situations. This is a sideways move but I'm fine with it.

Why they did that is a good definition of my usage of hoping.

    I hope it’s Art Warren.

I wonder if this increases the chances Dunn will be used in the bullpen

I’ll never say a bad thing…ever…about Amir. He should always be revered for the way he went 1 vs 25 and charged into the Clint Hurdle Pirate dugout with bad intentions. Eternal respect and best wishes from this Reds fan to Amir in his post-Red life.

Starting pitching depth is huge. This guy’s been healthy lately (better than Miley in that regard), and I think has a history with DJ. There is a mutual option for 2023, so who know, maybe he’s an acceptable backend starter beyond even this year.

Did the Reds have to pay a buyout to decline the option? If so, is that included in your calculation?

I would rather have Gray and Garrett at $12M than Minor and the prospect at $8.5M. But clearly, the Reds feel they need that money. Miley was a mistake that I think they now regret.

However, I am glad they were able to get value for Garrett.
