Minor was a former 1st round pick. Amir was a 22nd round pick. When you account for the salary difference, I think the Reds won this trade by 13 Friedls

Mike Minor missed the last month of the season with a shoulder injury, and Wade Miley threw more innings last year, so that's probably not it.

About $8M net for the guy. Remember when they made an offer to Heaney. Bet it was similar.

Pretty sure you're not allowed hit a Minor.

Reds could have non-tendered Amir and picked up Miley's option for essentially the same net. So what's the plan? How does this make sense?

No idea. But we can’t look at it with hindsight. When Miley was put on waivers there had been no lockout. No deal for Gray and no deal for Winker and Suarez. Maybe they thought they’d need that money if nothing materialized on the other fronts. Then it did so they could use that money. That’s my best guess anyway. lol.

Trying to parse what the Reds are doing here seems next to impossible, but I’m real glad to see Garrett gone and have liked Minor, especially with the Johnson connection. So I guess put me down as liking this trade.

Really makes no damn sense though on the macro lense.

I think this guarantees at least one of Castillo or Mahle is gone very soon.

Still, Minor has a history of durability. Threw over 200 innings in 2019. Miley hardly pitched in 2020, had some injuries last season.

Or maybe Reds just acted too quickly to cut Miley loose. They tend to act fast when they want to save money. Then they found themselves short of starters and had to replace him.

I don’t see it as a big deal, frankly, since Reds aren’t likely to contend this season. And I’m sure DJ vouched for Minor whom he knows from Vandy days.

Rosenthal said last night that they’re staying, for what that’s worth.

Maybe this really is the Reds bizarre attempt at a “retool”. I have no clue.

This is incredibly bizarre, but also encouraging.
