2022 Reds Injury Updates

Thought we might use this thread to keep up with Reds injuries this season.

Reds infielder Jose Barrero has been sidelined with a sore left wrist, and that injury has now been revealed as issue with his hamate bone, The Athletic’s C. Trent Rosecrans reports (via Twitter). Barrero is going to visit a hand specialist for a second opinion, but the expectation is that he’ll miss six weeks of action.

The injury appears to have originally occurred earlier in the offseason, as Reds manager David Bell told The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Bobby Nightengale and other reporters that Barrero “said he felt something this winter and took a little bit of time off, then it was fine. He did something on the field a couple of days ago that re-aggravated it. It’s one of those things without having the ability to talk to him [during the lockout], we had no idea that it was going on.”

The result is that Barrero looks set to begin the season on the injured list, which is an unfortunate setback for one of the Reds’ most promising youngsters.

Luis Castillo may not be ready for the season, David Bell said. He was shut down for a day because of shoulder soreness and now throwing again.

Also, Justin Dunn is expected to miss a couple of months with his shoulder injury.

Charlie Goldsmith’s wording:

David Bell says Luis Castillo was pushed back a day or two with a sore shoulder. Castillo’s status for the first time through the rotation is uncertain and he might miss a turn.

Justin Dunn is missing about a year from his injury date, which isn't great. I don't remember, did he have surgery? I don't think he did.

Reds SS Jose Barrero is scheduled to have surgery today in Scottsdale, Ariz., to repair the hook of his hamate bone in his left hand. He’s expected to miss 6 weeks.

I know he wasn't the main piece the Reds got back, but when the guy you traded Winker for is missing months to start the season it's a really bad look for that trade.
