Exactly. Brandon Drury is a vastly superior player at this point. This is why you don't spend big dollars for multiple years on position players who are 31-34 years old. I actually think the Reds are learning this stuff. (Joey Votto is an exception)

Max Schrock, who had a calf strain at the end of spring training, is expected to begin a rehab assignment in about a week. He's on the 60-day IL, so he's not eligible to return to the Reds until June 6.

If the team is gutted by the time Schrock comes back, I’d say Max, you’re the DH. Show us you can hit up here and we’ll find a place for you.

    Re: 2022 Reds Injury Updates

LHP Mike Minor (left shoulder soreness)
    Expected return: Early June
Minor’s first rehab assignment start for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday was a resounding success and pain free. The left-hander worked three hitless innings with no walks and four strikeouts while throwing 31 pitches. Manager David Bell heard good things about the outing from general manager Nick Krall.

“Nick was saying that all reports were he was really good and just attacked hitters, kind of dominated to the point of he had to go out into the bullpen after and continue to throw, so I thought that was a really good sign,” Bell said.

Minor’s next start for Louisville is scheduled for Sunday, but there is no target date yet for his Reds debut.

    2B Jonathan India (right hamstring)
    Expected return: TBD
India, who returned to the IL after his right hamstring tightened on him during an April 29 game vs. the Rockies, has begun doing some baseball activity. He started hitting off a tee and did some glove work with coach Delino DeShields. There is no timetable yet for when India might advance to more intense workouts or begin a rehab assignment.

    1B Joey Votto (COVID IL)
    Expected return: TBD
Votto, who was placed on the COVID IL on May 3, still has not rejoined the team. Before he is activated, Votto is expected to need a Minor League rehab assignment to get some at-bats.

“He’s already thinking that way too,” Reds manager David Bell said.

The timing of Votto’s stint away might be unfortunate for his hometown of Toronto, where the Reds are scheduled to play May 20-22. It’s unclear if he would be ready to rejoin the club in time.

In 22 games this season, Votto is hitting only .122 with three RBIs.

    OF Nick Senzel (COVID IL)
    Expected return: TBD
Senzel, who was placed on the COVID IL on May 4, might need a rehab assignment in the Minors to get some at-bats ahead of a potential activation.

“With Nick, it kind of depends if he’s back in the next few days, maybe he avoids it,” Reds manager David Bell said. “I would think maybe the end of next week, he might go play a few games and then be back on our homestand to play. That’s kind of the goal.”

SS Jose Barrero (left wrist surgery)
    Expected return: Early June
Barrero has resumed swinging a bat in the cage after a recent setback, but he has yet to hit in any extended spring games at the team’s complex in Goodyear, Ariz. During those games, he continues to play defense only.

IF/OF Max Schrock (left calf strain)
    Expected return: Early June
Schrock has been ramping up his baseball activity, with hitting, running and agility drills among his workouts. He could be ready to begin a rehab assignment next week and is eligible for activation on June 6.

Some positive injury news for the Reds

Jonathan India is going through pregame stretches with the team. Nick Lodolo is currently playing catch. Jake Fraley just did a few defensive drills.

David Bell said Lucas Sims has a “bulging disc” in his back.

“He started some light exercises today, core strengthening. I can’t tell you how long. From all of my experience, I still don’t have a prediction on that. I haven’t heard anyone talk about it being long term.”

Bell also said that Joey Votto could be a few days away from a rehab assignment.
No mention of Senzel. He hasn't played in a game in 10 days.

Probably the only barreling he'll be doing this year.

May 13: 1B Joey Votto (COVID IL) feeling 'really good'
    Expected return: TBD
Votto, who was placed on the COVID IL on May 3, is feeling better and has been doing more baseball activity lately, including hitting off a tee back at Great American Ball Park.

“He went from feeling pretty bad to really good,” Reds manager David Bell said. “I just got off the phone with him. No official plans on when he’s going to start [playing]. It could be sometime in the next few days. He is going to play in some rehab games."

The timing of Votto’s stint away might be unfortunate for his potential hometown return in Toronto, where the Reds are scheduled to play May 20-22. It’s unclear if he will be ready to rejoin the club in time.

    OF Nick Senzel (COVID IL)

Senzel, who was placed on the COVID IL on May 4, might need a rehab assignment in the Minors to get some at-bats ahead of a potential activation.

David Bell said. “I would think maybe the end of next week, he might go play a few games and then be back on our homestand.

LHP Mike Minor (left shoulder soreness)
    Expected return: Early June
Minor’s first rehab assignment start for Triple-A Louisville on May 10 was a resounding success and pain free. The left-hander worked three hitless innings with no walks and four strikeouts, while throwing 31 pitches. Manager David Bell heard good things about the outing from general manager Nick Krall.

Minor’s next start for Louisville is scheduled for May 15, but there is no target date yet for his Reds debut. . -- Mark Sheldon

Kind of makes you think about the Reds playing their best ball of the year while Votto and Senzel are out.
