Players had to play through injuries more up until what the late 80s or into the 90s when more guaranteed contracts and more concern about player health came in. I do know that this team has had years where everyone gets hurt. And whenever Barry Larkin would get hurt the team would tank on Q.
1989. Larkin throwing his elbow out in the AS comps which were banned after that. They thought he might not come back healthy from that at previous level. Paul O. Sabo. Jackson went out with Rijo in mid season. Even with a mess of the Rose issue they were in a good fight for 1st as late as June.
1993. Larkin again. Kevin Mitchell. Roberto Kelly. John Smiley.
Big thing was Larkin though. In 1991. 1992. Any time he was out that team would just play terrible. When fully healthy in 1994-95-96 and 99 he was the best SS in baseball.
Reds need Stephenson back bat wise for sure, his slg% (.468) is missed, especially when weighed against Garcia's total OPS of .433
They also need to get a catcher back in some of these future deals to remedy the impact a pitcher like OPS from a position player has in DH game

David Bell said it’s possible Tyler Stephenson could begin a rehab assignment in the next week to 10 days.
https://www.mlb.com/reds/news/reds-i...d-roster-movesJune 25: 2B Jonathan India gets negative X-ray after HBP on hand
India received a negative X-ray after he was hit by a pitch on his right hand in the fifth inning of Saturday's 9-2 loss to the Giants. A trainer came out to check on India as he walked to first base, but he stayed in the game. India exited as a precaution before his next at-bat.
Manager David Bell said he was not yet sure if India would be available for Sunday's series finale in San Francisco, but he did not rule out a return if India feels all right. -- Sonja Chen (Last updated: June 25)
C Tyler Stephenson (broken right thumb)
Expected return: July
Stephenson is healing faster than expected, and manager David Bell said he could begin a brief rehab assignment as soon as a week from June 25. Stephenson will likely start hitting again in the coming week.
Stephenson recently had the protective cast removed from his thumb, which was fractured on June 9. He began some light throwing in the outfield on June 22.
“No pain. It’s still stiff a little bit but I’ve obviously been sitting in the cast for almost two weeks,” Stephenson said. “I think it’s the stiffness from that. I will keep on building strength up and we’ll be all right.” -- Sonja Chen (Last updated: June 25)
H Alexis Díaz (right biceps)
Expected return: July 1
Díaz is scheduled to throw two bullpens, one on June 26 in San Francisco and another on June 29 in Chicago, before he is activated from the injured list. Manager David Bell said Díaz would not need a rehab assignment and is likely to return when eligible on July 1.

LHP Nick Lodolo (lower right back strain)
Expected return: Early July
Lodolo made his second rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on June 23, striking out five over four scoreless innings. Lodolo threw 58 pitches (38 strikes), and manager David Bell said he threw 10 more in a bullpen afterward.
Lodolo is scheduled to make one more rehab start on June 29 in order to build up his pitch count, after which Bell said the southpaw will be ready to return to the big league club.
Lodolo hasn't pitched for the Reds since April 24. -- Sonja Chen
OF Tyler Naquin (left quad strain)
Expected return: Early July
Naquin ran the bases once already and did so again on June 22. Manager David Bell said he could go on a rehab assignment by the end of next week. Naquin is feeling good, Bell said, but the team doesn't want to rush him back into games before he's completely healed.
A rehab assignment of three to five games would likely be Naquin's next step. He was originally expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a grade 2 left quad strain he suffered on May 31 at Boston. -- Sonja Chen (Last updated: June 25)

RHP Connor Overton (Stress reaction in lower back)
Expected return: Second half
Overton was scratched from his May 22 series finale start against the Blue Jays after complaining about back soreness the previous day. An MRI exam revealed a bone bruise caused by a stress reaction in his lower back. The right-hander was shut down from throwing for at least 6-8 weeks. -- Mark Sheldon (Last updated: May 23)
C Tyler Stephenson (broken right thumb)
Expected return: July
Stephenson posted an Instagram story on June 29 that showed him taking batting practice on the field at Great American Ball Park. He has been taking swings for the last few days. Manager David Bell expected Stephenson to be ready for a rehab assignment by the end of the week.
