Vladimir Gutierrez had Tommy John surgery on Wednesday. Reds hope to have him back for the second half of the 2023 season.

Tyler Stephenson will have surgery on his right collar bone.
It will not change his timetable, Bell said.

Plating the collarbone doesn't make it heal faster, but makes it more likely it will heal properly, often more comfortable for patient.

David Bell said Tyler Stephenson’s fracture shifted and he will have surgery. That doesn’t change his timeline.
Max Schrock was going to make the trip on the taxi squad. After arriving in Cincinnati, he discovered he had a small fracture in his right knee cap after he fouled a ball off his knee.
He's expected to have "three-to-four weeks of immobilizing,” according to David Bell.

Poor Max Schrock. Bones made of glass, skin made of paper.
Dubito Ergo Cogito Ergo Sum.
Did Shrock room with Senzel?

The Reds found a fracture in catcher Aramis Garcia’s finger. No specific timetable for his return.
What is this, the Oprah show? "You get a fracture and you get a fracture and you get a fracture!" Ridiculous luck.
I don't remember this many IL (DL) appearances in the 60's and 70's. When salaries were lower, did players play through pain more often?
Many were afraid they would lose their spot on the roster if they were DL'd. Also now teams want to protect their investment so as a precaution they just IL them. Another things is the IL time is a lot shorter than in the 70;s. It was 21 days minimum then. Now its 10 days or if COVID related it can be only one day.

Connor Overton tweaked his hamstring in Arizona, so a setback on his timing for a rehab assignment and potential return to the Reds. He's still throwing long toss.
Yes they played through them, also the buzz all winter was that the lockout was going to cause an uptick in injuries and that was dead on.
The biggest difference now in relation to fifty years ago is the following. Salaries now are higher, players are an investment, they are listened to, they are coddled. Secondly the science of sports is exponentially improved, the goal is to prevent permanent injuries and thus the use of the DL is prescribed over "rub some dirt on it." And finally workers everywhere have increased rights and that means having a voice in how their health is handled in the marketplace they work and that extends into locker rooms these days.
