    Go figure.
Nick and Wink just passed each other, with Wink getting his OPS up to .696 and Nick’s dropping to .677. It will be interesting where they both end up.

Defensive ratings are a big part of this.

Well yeah, the fact he is a poor defender and he isn't hitting to hide that particular deficiency definitely makes him look even worse.

Castellanos is a DH hitting like a 4th outfielder. I always liked him and hope and can get it together, but you have to think the Phillies are already beginning to regret that contract.

I wouldn't mind it if the Reds and Pham agreed to opt-in on next year's deal, he plays hard out in LF and has a nice approach at the plate.

Castellanos will get right when the Phillies meet the Reds.

For purposes of fWAR, Pham’s offensive rating is 5.2 and defensive rating is -2.7.

For purposes of fWAR, Castellanos’ offensive rating is -3.6 and defensive rating is -11.9.

Nick’s defensive rating is about the same as last year. His offense is down but let’s see how that looks at the end of the season.

Harper out of the lineup now.

It is pretty crazy to see how badly Castellanos and Winker have struggled this year. And Suarez is actually more productive than both.

I highly doubt Winker/Cast would be struggling so horribly had they stayed - GABP is a tonic that cures all offensive ills.

I do wonder if these results will be extrapolated; if GM's will start to think twice about paying high dollars to Reds FA hitters.

    Heck, look at Pham.

    2021 (SD): 155 GP, .724 OPS. 15 HR, 49 RBI, 14 SB, .228 AVG
    2022 (CIN) 64 GP, .752 OPS. 10 HR, 30 RBI, 5 SB. .245 AVG

On pace to double his HR & RBI output, higher BA/OPS. Worth noting this is his age 34 season.

And this sort of gives evidence it was the right move to move off those players and not offer big contracts to keep the team together....along with Votto coming way down to earth this year.

Yeah, I think the front office should take criticism for the team they built but they should also get some credit for moving on from several pieces that have frankly been atrocious.

Re: Reds signing Tommy Pham pending physical

Well, I must admit, I was very vocal when they dumped Winker. I was a bit upset with the prior gutting, I didn't expect them to keep everyone-but I didn't expect them to get ready of everyone either. When they chucked Winker just to get rid of Suarez's contract it pushed me over the line. I thought Winker was the best hitter to come of the Reds' farm since Votto, the kind of bat a team could build around. He was always capable of doing something stupid on the field, but his hitting compensated for that. He had a poor glove and got hurt a lot, but I thought the universal DH would help. I even thought they might move him to first when they bought out the final year of Votto's deal after next season. I still don't believe the Reds front office traded because they knew he was ready for a decline, they just got lucky so far and there's still a lot of time for him to improve his stats.

With the Reds he was an absent-minded poor outfielder that could hit. So far with the M's he's just an absent-minded poor outfielder.

Winker has had some bad luck. I still think he'll turn it around. Suarez is already doing so. Not sure about Cast, I don't catch many Phillies games.

Thing is though, they didn't replace the payroll they dropped. And if they would have kept Suarez, they would have gotten a better return, and they would have the best performer of the 3, still a Red.

But it was a payroll dump though, as we all know. So it doesn't really matter how they are doing. Reds ownership's intention in these 3 cases was not to make the team better. Their intention was to dump salary.

    Winker got his groove back.

.800+ OPS over the past month
1.000+ OPS over the past two weeks

Sadly his slump does go down on his record but he’ll be fine.
