Krall says the Reds approached Akiyama’s agent last year about getting him minor league at-bats, but Akiyama wasn’t interested at the time.

Also, Andrew Knapp was reassigned to minor league camp. Aramis Garcia is on track to be the backup catcher.

One season was sixty games, last season he was the best defensive guy they had and they had to ride out the investment. This season they walked away and ate the cost.

Akiyama cannot be sent to the minor leagues without his consent. He will be DFA'd by Opening Day if he declines his minor-league assignment. He declined to be sent to the minors last season.

So for Shogo his time in Cincinnati consisted of a negative WAR, him getting cut, and a tree falling on his wife. I bet he is ready to move on....
