Not shocked. Reading over the OF options, he seemed the odd man out.

Seemed like a nice guy but it’s a cruel sport. Do or do not. There is no try.

I think things could have been different if he didn't come over to the United States at the worst possible moment in baseball history. He was never going to be a star, but he could have been a serviceable role player.

Amazing how millions of yen can ease ones suffering.

Its one thing to lose your job AND income. But a silver or bronze parachute is more than the rest of us working class stiffs would get as a severance package.

This is very good news. I'm glad they did the right thing here. Considering the fact that this team is as weak in outfielders as any in MLB, it goes to show just how bad this guy is that he can't make it here

I don't see much misery in walking away with another 8 million dollars. He'll be just fine. He's had a fine career as a baseball player even if he doesn't play again in Japan, but I think he will

Exactly, my asking price for never having to write another line of code again is not even 7 digits!

Yep. Shogo played in major league baseball games and made millions. He's gonna be alright.

Jeff, I dont know about you, but some of us would gladly pay a price just to have the chance at 1 MLB AB and take 3 cuts.

It's a positive in recognizing a sunk cost. The addition of Pham and the perceived competence of Fraley made Shogo a goner. Aquino is next in line.

I know people here assumed he had to stay bc of his salary but I thought the writing was on the wall here. ST was his last stand and he still did nothing, so he’s gone.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

I'd like to see them pick up Justin Upton now and release/ trade Aquino.

Hate to see this for Shogo's sake. Wish the whole experience had turned out differently for him. But seems just the entirely obvious decision from a baseball standpoint. Wish him good luck.
