    Re: Nick Lodolo

Lodolo needs to stay healthy, but I think he's a bit like Luis Castillo in 2017 where he's got the right combination of physical maturity and stuff to step directly into the majors and be a quality starter.

He hasn’t really had “injuries over the years”. He had one real minor league season (2019 was his draft year, 2020 was at alternate site with no minor league season) last year was his only real MiLB season, and he was mainly plagued by finger blisters. I would say he has lots of injuries over the YEARS.

That would be called a factoid, which is defined as something that’s not TRUE, that gets said again and again so people think it’s true.

In three seasons, he's been sidelined with back and shoulder injuries and a good part of last season with blister issues. I'm excited about him and doesn't sound like any of these setbacks were ever that serious, but it'd be good to see him stay on the mound for a long stretch.

Brandon Drury had high praise for Nick Lodolo in his postgame press conference.

He says Lodolo could be one of the best LHP in MLB.

"I’ve never seen a left-handed slider like that in my career."

If the Reds are going to have any real success the next few years it'll be because the three rookie SP develop into a solid 1-3 or 2-4 in the rotation. I've always thought Lodolo had the stuff to get MLB hitters out just need to keep him on the mound and get his innings built up.

Encouraged by Lodolo. He looks like the best of the three so far IMO.

Since the heyday of Pete Schourek and John Smiley I've been jonesing for the Reds to have another tall lefty leading the staff. Extremely hopeful Lodolo can be that guy.

    Re: Nick Lodolo

He's pitched about as many innings as some oldtime relievers, he should be refreshed and ready to go long every 5th day.

I think Nick Lodolo might be good at this pitching thing.

    Re: Nick Lodolo

As his rookie year winds down, Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo has seemingly found another gear as he keeps gaining momentum.

Lodolo had another best start of his young big league career -- and he's had a few of those lately -- but Friday's 8-2 victory over the Brewers at American Family Field topped them all. As Cincinnati won its third consecutive game, the left-hander set career highs with eight innings pitched and 11 strikeouts.

“It’s the way his season has gone.
He just keeps getting better and tonight, during the game, he just kept getting better," Reds manager David Bell said.

Bell was prepared to give Lodolo a chance to complete the game, even with Alexis Díaz warming up in the bullpen. Once the Reds added three runs in the top of the ninth on homers by Jonathan India and Jake Fraley, Bell had both rookie pitchers sit down. Derek Law finished the game with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

"Lodolo was going back until we scored a couple," Bell said. "I was going to give him a chance to see if he could have kind of a quick, easy inning. Just the way he finished the eighth, it was hard not to.”

My son lives in Fort Walton Beach, FL, so we go catch the Lookouts play when they are in Pensacola which is only about 35 miles away in order to "scout" for future Reds. Anyway, last year we go when Lodolo is pitching. Our tickets were right in front of the Lookouts bullpen, so we watch intently as Lodolo warms up. He had great control and as stated that slider was nasty. Change wasn't bad either. I told my son that day that Lodolo looked the part of a true MLB frontline starter. I hope he continues to progress. I think he's our best young pitcher by far.

    Re: Nick Lodolo

The fact that Bell was thinking of running Lodolo back out for the ninth with 107 pitches is insane. Greene had thrown 114, 106, and 105 in the 3 starts before his last one before he went on the IL. Ashcraft had a streak of 7 100 pitch starts leading up to his last one before hitting the IL.
