IMO, Boyle is being groomed as a future MLB closer. i think he is starting in order to work on his control.

He fits the profile perfectly. I'd promote him to AA ASAP.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

I was thinking the exact same thing re: Boyle today. He could be a killer late-inning guy beginning next season.

I am liking the slow but steady work of Vellojin and Callihan; Callihan should be heading to Dayton soon IMO.

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of June 28-July 3

Hitter of the Week - Alex McGarry, Chattanooga: 9-26, 5 HRs, 8 RBI, 7 R, BB, 8 K (.299/.345/.624 overall). Like nearly all of the Reds position player prospects, McGarry has serious swing-and-miss concerns, but the contact is usually solid when he makes it. The 2020 UDFA out of Oregon State leads all Cincinnati farmhands with 19 home runs on the season and sports a 1.028 OPS in 20 games for the Lookouts this season.

Pitcher of the Week - Joe Boyle, Dayton: 5 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 12 K (0.65 ERA, 0.94 WHIP overall). Third time Boyle has earned this spot on the year and second time in as many weeks. The strikeout numbers are eye-popping, but perhaps more importantly it was the first time in 12 starts the Notre Dame product saw a goose egg in his walk column.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (3-3 this week | 30-47 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    TJ Friedl: 8-20, 2 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 7 RBI, 2 R, BB, 7 K, 2 SB (.250/.364/.473 overall)

    Cristian Santana: 8-23, 5 2Bs, 4 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K (.313/.358/.429 overall)

    Alejo Lopez: 6-19, 2 2Bs, 2 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB, 2 K (.244/.337/.333 overall)

    Nick Lodolo: 4.2 IP, 6 H, R, ER, BB, 5 K (rehab start)

    Randy Wynne: 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K (4.91 ERA, 1.45 WHIP overall)

Chattanooga Lookouts (2-4 this week | 36-39 overall | 3rd of 4 in SL North)

    Allan Cerda: 7-21, 2 2Bs, 3 HRs, 7 RBI, 6 R, 6 BB, 8 K (.230/.380/.523 overall)

    Nick Quintana: 7-19, 2 2Bs, 2 HRs, 5 RBI, 5 R, 3 BB, 5 K (.267/.379/.455 overall)

    Michael DeLeon: 5-15, 3 2Bs, HR, 6 RBI, R, BB, 4 K (.221/.280/.308 overall)

    Pedro Garcia: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, BB, 5 K (2.97 ERA, 1.12 WHIP overall)

    Spencer Stockton: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K (1.42 ERA, 0.98 WHIP overall)

Dayton Dragons (2-4 this week | 43-32 overall | 2nd of 6 in MWL East)

    Daniel Vellojin: 6-20, 4 HRs, 8 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB, 5 K (.216/.360/.373 overall)

    Austin Hendrick: 5-18, 2 2Bs, 2 HRs, 7 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB, 7 K (.214/.297/.436 overall)

    Elly De La Cruz: 7-21, 2B, 2 HRs, 4 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, 8 K, 4 SB (.295/.350/.566 overall)

    Jose Torres: 5-18, 2 HRs, 4 RBI, 5 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 4 SB (.231/.288/.394 overall)

    Evan Kravetz: 5.2 IP, 4 H, R, ER, 4 BB, 7 K (4.40 ERA, 1.43 WHIP overall)

    Vin Timpanelli: 4.2 IP, H, R, ER, BB, 8 K (6.21 ERA, 2.10 WHIP overall)

Daytona Tortugas (2-4 this week | 32-42 overall | 4th of 4 in FSL East)

    Dennis Boatman: 3.2 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (3.38 ERA, 1.27 WHIP overall)

    Brett Lockwood: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 4 K (4.78 ERA, 1.75 WHIP overall)

    Chase Petty: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 4 K (3.29 ERA, 1.15 WHIP overall)

    Javier Rivera: 3.2 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 6 K

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of July 4-July 10

Hitter of the Week - Elly De La Cruz, Dayton Dragons: 8-19, 8 H, 5 HRs, 5 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 3 SB (.303/.361/.610 overall). A monster week for the 20-year-old Dominican, who now has 20 home runs and 28 stolen bags on the season. De La Cruz has four home runs from the right side, where he's slashing .277/.348/.434 on the year. It's also another week of a reasonable K/BB ratio, hopefully a sign of an improving plate discipline.

Pitcher of the Week - Brandon Williamson, Louisville Bats: 6 IP, 6 H, R, ER, BB, 4 K (4.19 ERA, 1.51 WHIP overall). A solid second outing at AAA for the 24-year-old, who came over in the Suarez/Winker trade with Seattle. The 6'6 lanky lefty might remind you a lot of his former TCU teammate, Nick Lodolo. Depending on what happens at the deadline, there will likely be some opportunity with the big league team later this season for Williamson and Justin Dunn, another pitcher from the same trade.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (4-2 this week | 34-49 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    Juniel Querecuto: 5-17, 2B, 3 HRs, 4 RBI, 4 R, BB, 4 K (.292/.344/.480 overall)

    Alejo Lopez: 7-15, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, K (.276/.350/.390 overall)

    Ronnie Dawson: 6-18, 3 HRs, 6 RBI, 6 R, 0 BB, 3 K (.260/.354/.420 overall)

    Stuart Fairchild: 6-17, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 5 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 2 SB (.315/.354/.570 overall)

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of July 12-July 17

OP's Note: The Reds top four farm teams went a pathetic 5-16 this week and the individual performances reflected that. As someone who puts more stock into minor league Ws and Ls than most, I always find it concerning when three of your teams are dead last in their league standings and the fourth is headed in that direction.

Hitter of the Week - Ivan Johnson, Chattanooga Lookouts: 7-19, 3 2Bs, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, 0 BB, 6 K, SB (.264/.340/.426 overall). After a late start to the season after suffering a hamate injury, the 2019 fourth rounder has been on a bit of a roll of late, slashing .373/.385/.510 in the month of July. The longball this week was the third on the year for the switch hitter.

Pitcher of the Week - Christian Roa, Dayton Dragons: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 6 K (4.29 ERA, 1.48 WHIP overall). The 2020 second rounder also got a late start to the 2022 season and has had an up-and-down campaign. Strikeout numbers have been nice with 57 in 42 innings, but he's also allowed 25 free passes.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (2-4 this week | 36-53 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    TJ Friedl: 10-22, 2 2Bs, 3B, HR, 7 RBI, 4 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 SB (.276/.371/.497 overall)

    Colin Moran: 5-18, 2 2Bs, RBI, R, 4 BB, 7 K (.283/.377/.457 overall)

    Cristian Santana: 7-17, 3 RBI, R, BB, 3 K (.309/.352/.415 overall)

    Matt Pidich: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

    Randy Wynne: 6 IP, 5 H, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

    Robert Dugger: 4 IP, H, R, ER, 3 BB, 4 K

    Justin Nicolino: 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

Chattanooga Lookouts (1-5 this week | 38-49 overall | 4th of 4 in SL North)

    TJ Hopkins: 5-20, 2B, HR, RBI, 2 R, BB, 7 K (.233/.324/.412 overall)

    Michael DeLeon: 5-16, 2B, 2 RBI, R, BB, 4 K (.227/.288/.324 overall)

    Miguel Hernandez: 6-20, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 R, BB, 7 K (.255/.321/.373 overall)

    Michael Byrne: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (4.79 ERA, 1.54 WHIP overall)

    Ryan Nutof: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 4 K (1.96 ERA, 1.28 WHIP overall)

    Spencer Stockton: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K (1.62 ERA, 1.08 WHIP overall)

    Andrew Abbott: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 K (4.06 ERA, 1.25 WHIP overall)

Dayton Dragons (0-4 this week | 44-41 overall | 4th of 6 in MWL East)

    Jonathan Willems: 3-10, 2B, 0 BB, 2 K (.185/.248/.311 overall)

    Austin Hendrick: 4-14, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, R, 0 BB, 6 K (.212/.288/.415 overall)

    Jake Gilbert: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, K (6.61 ERA, 1.56 WHIP overall)

    Miguel Medrano: 4 IP, H, R, ER, 4 BB, 4 K (5.66 ERA, 1.60 WHIP overall)

Daytona Tortugas (2-3 this week | 36-49 overall | 4th of 4 in FSL East)

    Austin Callahan: 6-14, 4 2Bs, 3 RBI, 4 R, 5 BB, 3 K, SB (.379/.357/.442 overall)

    Hayden Jones: 4-12, HR, RBI, 2 R, 3 SB (.242/.296/.382 overall)

    Steven Leyton: 5-15, 2 2Bs, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K (.254/.275/.486 overall)

    Tanner Cooper: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, ER, 0 BB, 9 K (3.00 ERA, 1.14 WHIP overall)

    Julian Aguiar: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 12 K (3.44 ERA, 1.12 WHIP overall)

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of July 22-24

OP's Note: I've talked about minor league W-L loss record in this space before. As mentioned, I think there is some significance and value in the farm clubs establishing a winning culture. Considering each team's top four farm clubs, there are only two franchises this year who have a worse overall W-L record than the Reds (KC and Houston). Not sure it means too much in the long haul, but I don't like it.

    Hitter of the Weekend - Alex McGarry, Chattanooga Lookouts: 5-11, 2B, 2 HRs, 4 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 SB (.294/.345/.612 overall)
In my book, the former Oregon State Beaver is in the conversation for most pleasant MiLB surprise of the 2022 season. Despite some ongoing strikeout issues (96 in 289 ABs), McGarry has put together a real solid sophomore campaign and the numbers have only improved since his AA promotion at the beginning of June. He has 23 home runs this season after swatting 11 in two levels of A ball last year. Mostly a 1B and DH, McGarry has played some OF and I wonder if he might look good in a corner spot or if they've determined he can't cut it out there already.

Pitcher of the Weekend - Christian Roa, Dayton Dragons: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K (3.91 ERA, 1.39 WHIP overall). The heat of July has agreed with the Texas native, who in four starts this month has pitched 18 innings, struck out 26, walked just seven, and allowed only three earned runs. Hopefully the emergence isn't a blip on the radar and Roa can pair with Chase Petty to give the Reds arms to look forward to in the low minors.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (2-1 this weekend | 38-54 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    Colin Moran: 5-12, HR, 4 RBI, 5 R, BB, K (.298/.387/.481 overall)

    Jose Barrero: 5-13, 2B, HR, RBI, 3 R, BB, 3 K (.208/.250/.365 overall)

    Fernando Cruz: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K (3.38 ERA, 1.08 WHIP overall)

    Brandon Williamson: 3 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 3 BB, 4 K (4.21 ERA, 1.56 WHIP overall)

    Justin Dunn: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (5.40 ERA, 1.60 WHIP overall)

Chattanooga Lookouts (0-3 this weekend | 38-52 overall | 4th of 4 in SL North)

    TJ Hopkins: 4-12, 2B, HR, 7 RBI, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K (.237/.323/.423 overall)

    Eduardo Salazar: 4 IP, 4 H, R, ER, BB, 6 K (5.65 ERA, 1.51 WHIP overall)

    Carson Spiers: 3 IP, 4 H, R, ER, BB, 2 K (4.88 ERA, 1.51 WHIP overall)

Dayton Dragons (1-2 this weekend | 45-43 overall | 4th of 6 in MWL East)

    Matheu Nelson: 3-6, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, 3 K, SB (.216/.305/.373 overall)

    Daniel Vellojin: 3-7, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 K (.205/.340/.356 overall)

    Donovan Benoit: 2 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (4.86 ERA, 1.41 WHIP overall)

    Manuel Cachutt: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K (4.25 ERA, 1.06 WHIP overall)

    Jake Gilbert: 2.1 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 4 K (6.15 ERA, 1.51 WHIP overall)

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games from July 26-July 31

Hitter of the Week: TJ Hopkins, Chattanooga Lookouts: 11-21, 4 2Bs, 3 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB, 6 K (.256/.341/.442 overall). The 2019 9th rounder out of South Carolina got off to a torrid start this year, had a brutal month of May, and has slowly worked his numbers back up to respectability. This is the 25-year-old's second full season in a Lookout uniform and is posting remarkably similar numbers (.268/.341/.442 in 2021 at AA). Good defender with speed, might be a 4th or 5th OF option down the road.

Pitcher of the Week: Spencer Stockton, Chattanooga Lookouts: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 10 K (2.76 ERA, 1.18 WHIP overall) The UDFA out of Jacksonville bounced back from his worst outing of the season with a pair of performances that garnered him Southern League Pitcher of the Week honors. He's old for his level at 26 already and he doesn't have eye-popping numbers (45.2 IP, 49 K), but opponents are only hitting .228 against him this season.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (3-3 this week | 41-57 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    Aristides Aquino: 6-19, 2B, 2 HRs, 3 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB, 9 K (.312/.407/.701 overall at AAA)

    Alejo Lopez: 4-11, 2B, RBI, BB, K (.272/.347/.381 overall)

    Robert Dugger: 6.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (4.30 ERA, 1.33 WHIP overall)

    Brandon Williamson: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 2 K (3.93 ERA, 1.54 WHIP overall)

    Justin Nicolino: 7.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 3 K (5.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP overall)

Chattanooga Lookouts (3-3 this week | 41-55 overall | 4th of 4 in SL North)

    Matt McLain: 5-16, 4 2Bs, 3 RBI, R, 4 BB, 4 K, SB (.241/.366/.473 overall)

    JC Keys: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K (5.46 ERA, 1.62 WHIP overall)

    Evan Kravetz: 2.2 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K (4.02 ERA, 1.37 WHIP overall)

    Connor Phillips: 6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, ER, 5 BB, 11 K (3.40 ERA, 1.27 WHIP overall)

    Carson Spiers: 5 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 3 K (4.70 ERA, 1.48 WHIP overall)

Dayton Dragons (3-3 this week | 48-46 overall | 4th of 6 in MWL East)

    Quincy McAfee: 7-20, 2B, 2 HRs, 3 RBI, 8 R, 6 BB, 2 K (.215/.332/.359 overall)

    JV Martinez: 6-20, 5 2Bs, 4 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB, 4 K (.249/.313/.402 overall)

    Jayvien Sandridge: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 7 K (1.33 ERA, 1.26 WHIP overall)

    Joe Boyle: 3.2 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 3 BB, 7 K (1.97 ERA, 1.09 WHIP overall)

Daytona Tortugas (1-4 this week | 38-55 overall | 4th of 4 in FSL East)

    Hayden Jones: 6-17, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 0 BB, 5 K (.253/.309/.389 overall)

    Jose Franco: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 3 K (4.63 ERA, 1.49 WHIP overall)

    Javier Rivera: 4 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K (2.88 ERA, 0.98 WHIP overall)

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of August 2-7

Hitter of the Week - Elly De La Cruz, Chattanooga Lookouts: 12-28, 5 2Bs, 2 HRs, 8 RBI, 7 R, 3 BB, 9 K, 2 SB (.303/.356/.606 overall). Nothing short of electrifying this week. His performances were well-documented in other threads here, but I wanted to note de la Cruz led a suddenly scary Lookout offense to 47 runs in a six-game series against the shell-shocked Birmingham Barons, with Chattanooga winning five of the six.

Pitcher of the Week - Jose Acuna, Daytona Tortugas: 9 IP, 4 H, R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K (2.11 ERA, 0.89 WHIP overall). The product of the Tyler Naquin trade made a sparkling, somewhat under-the-radar organizational debut this week in two different outings. The 19-year-old lanky righty has thrown only 17 innings above rookie ball this season, has struck out 22, walked only five, and surrended just a single earned run.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (2-5 this week | 43-62 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    TJ Friedl: 7-24, 2B, 2 HRs, 7 RBI, 7 R, 6 BB, 6 K, 2 SB (.272/.368/.476 overall)

    Lorenzo Cedrola: 10-26, 3 2Bs, 3B, 3 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 5 K, SB (.267/.295/.358 overall)

    Juniel Querecuto: 8-23, 4 2Bs, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, 4 K, SB (.286/.341/.451 overall)

    Spencer Steer: 6-16, 4 RBI, 2 R, 0 BB, 4 K, SB (.274/.366/.521 overall)

    TJ Zeuch: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, ER, 0 BB, 12 K (6.70 ERA, 1.77 WHIP overall)

    Justin Nicolino: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 8 K (5.46 ERA, 1.34 WHIP overall)

Chattanooga Lookouts (5-1 this week | 46-56 overall | 3rd of 4 in SL North)

    Allan Cerda: 9-19, 2 2Bs, HR, 3 RBI, 9 BB, 6 K, SB (.214/.363/.472 overall)

    TJ Hopkins: 10-23, 5 2Bs, 3B, HR, 8 RBI, 3 R, BB, SB (.269/.349/.472 overall)

    Christian Encarnacion-Strand: 4-11, HR, 4 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 K (.304/.379/.613 overall)

    Nick Quintana: 6-17, 3 2Bs, 3 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB, 6 K (.264/.379/.419 overall)

    Mike Siani: 6-23, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, 8 R, 9 BB, 7 K, 8 SB (!) (.249/.355/.383 overall)

    Ivan Johnson: 6-22, 3 2Bs, 3B, 3 RBI, 6 R, BB, 7 K (.261/.325/.428 overall)

    Spencer Stockton: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 2 K (2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP overall)

    Eduardo Salazar: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 11 K (5.68 ERA, 1.52 WHIP overall)

    Andrew Abbott: 9.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 8 K (4.01 ERA, 1.27 WHIP overall)

Dayton Dragons (2-4 this week | 50-50 overall | 4th of 6 in MWL East)

    Austin Hendrick: 6-20, 2B, 2 HRs, 9 RBI, 4 R, 6 BB, 5 K, SB (.212/.295/.418 overall)

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of August 9-August 14

Hitter of the Week - Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Chattanooga Lookouts: 7-22, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, R, 0 BB, 5 K (.304/.376/.606 overall). It was a bit of a rough week for Reds position prospects, but that doesn't take away from the solid performance of what might be the gem of the Mahle trade. The 22-year-old has 27 HRs, 26 doubles, and 91 RBIs in his second season of pro ball.

Pitcher of the Week - Chase Petty, Dayton Dragons: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 6 K (3.74 ERA, 1.22 WHIP overall). After a pair of rough outings in his first two starts as a Dragon, Petty only allowed one baserunner in his brief but brilliant start this week. He threw 30 strikes in his 52 pitches and got four groundouts to only one fly out.

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of August 16-21

Hitter of the Week - Cristian Santana, Louisville: 7-19, 2B, 4 HRs, 12 RBI, 5 R, 6 BB, 3 K (.295/.348/.419 overall). The longtime Dodger farmhand, still only 25 years old, doubled his home run output this week with his four bombs. The Dominican is chasing his third straight .300 BA season and while he likely doesn't figure into any Reds plans, it seems like he should get a big league shot somewhere in the next couple years. EDLC could have easily won this honor again, but I wanted to give Santana a shoutout for a fine season.

Pitcher of the Week - Javier Rivera, Dayton: 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K (2.61 ERA, 0.91 WHIP overall). Last year's 20th round pick is starting to get some attention after breezing through Daytona this year and posting his second straight strong performance for the Dragons. He doesn't walk anybody (only 20 BBs in 82.2 IP), strikes them out at a pretty good clip (101 Ks), and keeps the ball in the yard (only 5 HRs allowed). He's a college kid out of Florida Atlantic so at 22 years old, he could be a quick mover if the success continues.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (3-3 this week | 49-69 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    Spencer Steer: 9-23, 3 2Bs, HR, RBI, 3 BB, 5 K (.276/.367/.526 overall)

    Ronnie Dawson: 6-23, 2B, 2 HRs, 4 RBI, 5 R, 0 BB, 3 K (.257/.341/.415 overall)

    Lorenzo Cedrola: 7-21, 2B, 2 RBI, 4 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 2 SB (.279/.309/.376 overall)

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of August 23-28

Hitter of the Week - Hector Rodriguez, Daytona Tortugas: 7-20, 3 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 4 RBI, 6 R, 0 BB, 4 K, SB (.345/.383/.561 overall). The diminutive middle infielder from the Tyler Naquin deal has shown well in a week and a half's worth of games in a Daytona uniform. The lefty-swinging Dominican turned 18 in March and has played on four different squads this year in his first season stateside.

Pitcher of the Week - Sam Benschoter, Dayton Dragons: 10 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 14 K (4.01 ERA, 1.20 WHIP overall). After a somewhat average performance in Daytona this season, the Michigan State product made the most of his first two starts in a Dragon uniform this week. With a fastball in the mid-90s, he's struck out 105 hitters in 67.1 IP this year. I wonder if his ultimate ticket isn't out of the bullpen.

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of August 30-September 4

Hitter of the Week - Tyler Callihan, Dayton: 11-24, 3 2Bs, 3B, 2 HRs, 8 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K (.252/.315/.392 overall). A monster week for the forgotten man now in the prospect infield mix with all the recent additions. But this is more or less the 2019 third-round pick's first season in two years with the COVID year and being limited to 23 games last year with elbow issues. Probably too early to write off the 22-year-old completely, but he'll need to make a big jump next year to remain on the Reds radar.

Pitcher of the Week - Jose Acuna, Daytona: 5 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (2.48 ERA, 0.89 WHIP overall). The product of the Naquin trade had a pair of mediocre outings in August, but he seems to be back to his magnificient ways lately. I'm struck by his typically clean pitching lines - few hits, hardly any walks, easy innings. He threw 67 pitches in this week's outing, 47 for strikes.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (1-5 this week | 52-77 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    Alex McGarry: 4-12, 2 2Bs, 2 R, BB, 2 K (.270/.321/.557 overall)

    TJ Hopkins: 5-21, 2 HRs, 7 RBI, 3 R, BB, 6 K (.265/.340/.472 overall)

    Ricky Karcher: 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K (4.02 ERA, 1.64 WHIP overall)

Chattanooga Lookouts (2-3 this week | 54-70 overall | 4th of 4 in SL North)

    Christian Roa: 5 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 6 K (3.99 ERA, 1.42 WHIP overall)

Dayton Dragons (5-1 this week | 64-59 overall | 4th of 6 in MWL East)

    Justice Thompson: 4-12, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 7 R, 7 BB, 5 K, 4 SB (.242/.360/.374 overall)

Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of September 6-11

Hitter of the Week - TJ Hopkins, Louisville Bats: 8-23, 2B, 2 HRs, 7 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB, 7 K (.270/.344/.481 overall). The 2019 ninth-rounder has hit really well in his 16 games at Louisville since earning the promotion. While those numbers would likely come back down to earth with a few more weeks of ABs, his improvement has been steady each year in the system (OPS of .758 in '19, .777 in '21, and .825 in '22). The main reason has been finding his power stroke, blasting 21 home runs this season after hitting only five in each of his first two seasons. I'd wager he makes a Reds appearance in 2023.

Pitcher of the Week - Andrew Abbott, Chattanooga Lookouts: 10 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 13 K (4.02 ERA, 1.29 WHIP overall). The 23-year-old lefty hasn't appeared in this thread much after his brilliant first month in Dayton, but his two starts this week were tremendous. He'll likely get one more start this year so hopefully he can pitch well and take a little momentum into the offseason.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (2-4 this week | 54-81 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    Juniel Querecuto: 8-26, 2B, 4 HRs, 6 RBI, 7 R, BB, 6 K (.267/.319/.451 overall)

    Stephen Piscotty: 8-24, 2B, 3 HRs, 6 RBI, 3 R, BB, 6 K (.288/.329/.475 overall)

    Cristian Santana: 8-24, 2 HRs, 3 RBI, 7 R, BB, 7 K (.286/.338/.410 overall)

    Kyle Dowdy: 4.1 IP, 4 H, R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K (4.25 ERA, 1.52 WHIP overall)

    Julio Pinto: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (4.67 ERA, 1.65 WHIP overall)

    Hunter Greene: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 11 K (rehab)

Chattanooga Lookouts (3-3 this week | 57-73 overall | 4th of 4 in SL North)

    Brian Rey: 6-18, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, R, 0 BB, 2 K (.258/.321/.367 overall)

    Mike Siani: 5-18, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, R, 3 BB, K, 4 SB (.252/.351/.404 overall)

    Christian Roa: 6 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 8 K (3.71 ERA, 1.34 WHIP overall)

    Connor Phillips: 5.1 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 4 K (3.65 ERA, 1.34 WHIP overall)

    Michael Byrne: 4 IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB, 4 K (4.73 ERA, 1.53 WHIP overall)
