Re: 2022 mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Week Thread

    Games of September 13-18

Hitter of the Week - Matt McLain, Chattanooga Lookouts: 6-21, 2 2Bs, 2 HRs, 7 RBI, 4 R, 10 BB, 10 K, 3 SB (.232/.363/.453 overall). The 2021 first-rounder was on base all week for the Lookouts, including his 21st double and 17th round-tripper on the season. The strikeouts are certainly a concern, as he fanned 127 times in 371 at-bats this year, but he did counter that with 70 walks. I'm curious to see where he plays in the AFL, and he still is my darkhorse candidate to make the MLB roster out of spring training.

Pitcher of the Week - Andrew Abbott, Chattanooga Lookouts: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 8 K (3.81 ERA, 1.25 WHIP overall). The 23-year-old lefty started strong and finished strong in 2022. Abbott didn't allow a run in 16 September innings, striking out 21 and only allowing three free passes. He ends the year with very respectable numbers in his first full pro season and stands to headline the Louisville rotation in 2023 with a good chance of seeing some big league time late next season.

    Others of note:

Louisville Bats (2-4 this week | 56-85 overall | 10th of 10 in IL West)

    Michael DeLeon: 8-21, 3 2Bs, RBI, 3 R, BB, 5 K (.248/.306/.360 overall)

    Mike Siani: 6-26, HR, 3 RBI, 5 R, BB, 3 K, 3 SB (.251/.346/.400 overall)

    Pedro Garcia: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 3 K (2.80 ERA, 1.26 WHIP overall)

    Levi Stoudt: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 5 K (4.98 ERA, 1.30 WHIP overall)

    Ben Lively: 5 IP, 5 H, R, ER, 0 BB, 2 K (4.21 ERA, 1.36 WHIP overall)

    Carson Spiers: 4 IP, 6 H, R, ER, 0 BB, 3 K (5.29 ERA, 1.53 WHIP overall)

    Connor Overton: 7.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 9 K (2.70 ERA, 1.01 WHIP overall)

Chattanooga Lookouts (4-2 this week | 61-75 overall | 3rd of 4 in SL North)

    Christian Encarnacion-Strand: 9-25, 2B, 2 HRs, 8 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB, 9 K (.304/.368/.587 overall)

    Rece Hinds: 9-29, 2Bs, 3B, 2 HRs, 4 RBI, 3 R, 0 BB, 12 K (.233/.304/.428 overall)

    Elly De La Cruz: 9-24, 2 2Bs, 3B, 3 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB, 9 K, 4 SB (.304/.359/.586 overall)

    Christian Roa: 6 IP, H, R, ER, 4 BB, 5 K (3.56 ERA, 1.31 WHIP overall)

    Joe Boyle: 5 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K (2.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP overall)

    Evan Kravetz: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 K (4.20 ERA, 1.45 WHIP overall)
"In our sundown perambulations of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing 'base', a certain game of ball. Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms, the game of ball is glorious"
