    4/16 Minor League Scores

Dayton's playing two today. They're already up 2-0 in Game One. Albert Almora has a hit and a run scored. Rece Hinds has a walk, a SB, and a run scored. Jose Torres has a hit, an RBI, and a SB. James Marinan goes for the Dragons in this one. In Game Two, we aren't sure who's going to pitch. Might be me. Youneverknow. (It's not me.)

Daytona has Arij Fransen going against the evil Palm Beach Cardinals.

Chattanooga hasn't yet told us who's going to start. We didn't want to pry, so we'll all find out together.

Louisville has Ben Lively toeing the rubber.

Out of curiosity. What is Almora doing in Dayton? Rehab?

Dayton won Game One, 4-3. Rece Hinds had an interesting line: 0-1 with 3 BBs and 2 SB. Quintana had a double and went 1-3. Juan Martinez went 1-3 with his 1st HR.

Dayton also won Game Two. That's a good day at the park right there. Juan Martinez was the big bat of the day-- 3-6 total with a HR. No one else had more than one hit. (In Game Two, they only had two hits total as a team. Not great offense.)

Daytona lost in extras. Again. They have a nasty habit of blowing leads late. That needs to end. Hendrick had a hit and two BBs. Michel Triana had a couple of hits. Julian Aguiar came on in relief (not sure why-- are they really piggybacking in Daytona?), but was dominant again, tossing four innings of 7 K shutout baseball.

Chattanooga's currently up 9-1 on the Barons of Birmingham. Michael Siani has a couple of hits and a walk, continuing his fine 2022. TJ Hopkins is 2-5 with a 2B. (I think he might be a solid fourth OF for a couple of seasons. Like the mix of speed and power.) Francisco Urbaez has a hit and a walk. Eric Yang is 1-2 with two BBs. Yang's been swinging a pretty potent bat so far this young season. Like to see that. Brandon Williamson rebounded with a solid outing: 5 IP, 1 ER, 4K. Only three H, but 4 BB is troubling. Miguel Medrano is on now.

Louisville and Omaha are knotted up at two with the Storm Chasers batting in the 8th. Ben Lively went four and did okay. The bullpen has done very well.

Chattanooga ended up cruising, 12-1 over the Barons of Birmingham. Miguel Medrano finished up the last 4 IP similarly to how Williamson pitched the first five-- very well, thanks. 0 ER. 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K. Terry Gilliam (j/k, his first name is Isiah) had a couple of hits, and Leonardo Rivas had himself a night. 5 RBI. 2 H. His 2nd HR of the season. The 5 RBI give him 10 for the young season-- that ties him for the Southern League lead. The 2 HR are tied for 3rd. IIRC, Rivas had a hot start last year as well. Good on him. For that, Leonardo Rivas, you are hereby named the 4/16 recipient of the Mace Memorial Minor League Player of the Day.

In Omaha, the Storm Chasers won in 10, 3-2. The Bats fall to 3-8. Cedrola and Cristian Santana had two hits apiece. Omaha pitchers combined to give up zero free passes on the game. I'm not sure if that's approach or ineptitude. Regardless, ick.

Andrew Abbott had 10 k’s in five innings for Dayton. Dude is criminally underrated.

As I recall last season in NCAA, the top three pitchers in major conferences in K/9 - Leiter, Rocker, Abbott.

    Missed that one.

Abbott might need to be pushed rather aggressively. I could see them moving him to AA sometime in May.

That said, anyone know anything about Christian Roa and Bryce Bonnin? Both should be in AA, but aren't. Doug Gray says they're injured, but no news out of Cincinnati, of course. (If there's an opportunity to grow minor league baseball interests, the Reds will find a way to squash it.)

Sure, but what does that matter really?

If he hits (and he's finally showing some early signs of that) and moves up one level per year, he's a 27-year-old rookie.

The Reds control him for his best seasons, then let him go.

You have to take everything he does with a giant grain of salt, but that's the way you do with any prospect, really.
