Why is Votto supposed to be the Reds best player? What kind of management constructs a roster so that the 38-year-old is the best player? As for the money, well, I think you can agree the reason he accepted a lower annual fee due to the length of the contract.

Joey getting zero lift on balls in play. He has had several balls that would be hits if not for the shift. Once he starts lifting the ball the HRs will come.

Looks really bad right now. I’d sit him tomorrow and the following 2 games.

Sometime the end just comes, man. Maybe last year was his last hurrah. Would’ve been cool to see him hit 40 HR for a season in his career, which doesn’t really seem possible no matter much he turns it around at this point.

But, lots of usually very good players are playing like complete garbage right now around the league, so who knows. Thank god they’re outlawing the shift and enforcing the pitch clock next year.

It’s still way too early and I’ve felt burned before on saying maybe it’s time to address to the Votto issue. Still not concerned about him yet even tho he’s obviously been bad, which makes him just fit in with the rest of the team.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Every year it seems to take the Ferrari longer and longer to get warmed up.

One year, at some point, it won't get warmed up at all, or ever again.

Might as well be this year.

So what do you want to do with him? Or are you just here to tell us that Joey sucks? It is pretty obvious to all of us that the start of his 16th season as a Red has been woeful. Are you suggesting we just start mocking him? Hasn't he earnt any leeway with you?

You just leave him in the lineup and consider him an automatic out while continuing to write the checks. Seriously, who on this team could they put at first that would be better?

Re: Is Joey Votto Washed?/What to do with Joey Votto?

Last year Votto put up one of the best 37 year old seasons I can remember, an utterly stunning year. I'd still be willing to bet he will put up a good 38 year old year this year, but it will be a 38 year old year. It's a problem that your best player is 38 years old. Last year you got something like 3.5 bWar out of Votto and 5.9 out of a 34 year old journeyman LHer who hasn't thrown an inning yet this year. Like it or not, this team was on the verge of a major turnover this year quite apart from any of the trades they made. We're epically bad whereas, without the trades, we'd just have been pretty bad. But I'm still betting on Votto to have a good 38 year old year.

I’m suggesting you find the humor in the situation

    The team is comically hilarious.

And votto is just a funny little add on. .143 slugging after 20+ games is hysterical
