With their win today, the current Reds remain 2 GB the 1982 Reds'. On this date in '82, the Reds beat the Houston Astros by a score of 3-2 as Frank Pastore outdueled Bob Knepper to get the win. Davey Concepcion doubled, tripled, and stole a base to lead the Reds, who improved to 5-11 on the season.

The current Reds drop 2.5 GB the 1982 Reds , who won on this day in '82 over the Astros in the Dome by score of 4-3 in 10 innings.

The Reds had to come from behind in this one. Trailing 3-1 entering the ninth inning, the Reds rallied to tie the game against Astros' reliever Joe Sambito with two runs in the ninth on PH Mike Vail's 2-run single. The Reds added one in the tenth off of loser Randy Moffitt(Billie Jean King's brother). The game-winner was plated on a sacrifice fly by Davey Concepcion, who also had three hits on the day. Perennial Reds' pain in the @ss , Terry Puhl, had a double , a homer, and drove in three for the Astronomicals. There were six errors in this game, including four by the Reds. The Reds' record improved to 6-11 on the season.

Also, this game was not a well- umpired game from behind home plate. How do I remember that detail after 40 years? I don't have to. Eric Gregg, the round mound of inconsistency called balls and strikes on this day.

That lineup for the 1982 team in the OP included 5 members of the Reds Hall of Fame. Granted they were past their prime but that lineup was far more talented than the 2022 version

Freaking 1982 and members of that team get mentioned more thanthe good Reds teams around here. Bob should have a 1982 bobblehead tribute night. Bet it’d pack some long lost Redzoners into the stadium since it appears to be an annual item of interest.

The 1932 Reds were way worse than the 1982 team and the franchise as a whole was more pathetic than them (and this team) by a far margin.

For sure. But recency is making 1982 prime time fodder right now. This could finally be the year all of the annual 100 loss predictors can finally be right! I demand the trifecta bobblehead of Clint Hurdle, Duane Walker and Paul Householder in their honor. It can serve as a constant reminder that if you predict something enough years in a row, it’s bound to eventually happen.

It was a touchstone year for many. The death of the BRM; indeed it was a traumatic year. It also was the year that I left Ohio for the Bay Area, my biggest memories of that season were fading billboards on the Oakland highway for "Billyball" at the coliseum, Joe Morgan hitting a HR against the Dodgers to screw their season and The Brewers losing to the Cardinals in the WS. So I guess I'm a little less traumatized.

Watching the BRM fade into history had to be tough. The first baseball I remember watching occurred in 1985, but I was so young those memories are just fleeting glimpses more than anything. My Reds fandom began in earnest that year at the Watermill on Harrison Avenue. A Reds/Cardinals game was playing and my aunt who worked there said Pete Rose was her favorite player and was on the Reds so I needed to cheer for them. That place was leveled, and unfortunately, we lost my aunt last month. But that started my Reds fandom. By 1990 I was well aware of the BRM from my dad and uncles. I was in such awe that Griffey Sr., a guy from that stories team, was still around and on the Reds. The passage of time is so much different when youre younger. Now I know that 1975 and 1976 were closer in time to 1990 than 1990 is to today. Just makes you think, the last time the Reds won it all, I was a 1st grader. I’ll turn 39 in October. Crazy stuff

The 1932 Reds at 60-94 were a sad outfit. But they can't match the 1934 team at 52-99. Perhaps the three missing
games were because of some mercy rule.

Probably true. They were -311 in RS and the bank owned the team. Manager Bob O'Farrell used to bring his golf clubs to the game and head to the course immediately after the loss.

Did the Reds change ownership groups between 1934 and 1939?
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Taking a further look into the 32 team. I didn’t realize Eppa Rixey was around that long.
