There’s been some chatter about extending Turner again. The fit with Jackson, who can switch out, is intriguing and I was in the minority of those who liked Turner’s fit with Sabonis.
That said, I would count on either Turner, Theis or Goga to be moved before the season starts. The obvious questions of where and for whom.

If so, that alone would justify the trade, regardless of the result of the included first rounder. We have to remember that Nesmith was projected to go higher in that draft but fell.

That’d be great. Heck, lots of people were convinced the Paul George trade wouldn’t work out, at least the National press. And you’re right, Nesmith went 14, about where he was projected.

I liked Nesmith in college and thought he had a lot of potential to be a good pro. Hopefully a change of organizations and opportunity for more minutes will help him reach his potential. Maybe he learned a few defensive skills in Boston that can give him an edge in Indy.

Thomas Bryant signs with LA.
He's a solid offensive performer with some real upside in that area, but he's a sieve defensively. They may be able to hide him a bit if AD and LeBron are engaged, but that's a rarity.
More interestingly is what this might do to the lineup. Right now, they've got about five wings, none of them particularly good. THT needs clock-- but he has to earn it. His 2022 was really, really bad. Avery Bradley is 112 and does remarkably little. Austin Reaves is a shooter who wasn't particularly effective. Lonnie Walker has been a walking disappointment since being drafted. Mac McClung is an MSU alum-- and that's the best thing you can really say about him.
Starting only one of those guys has ramifications though. LeBron would then have to take on more responsibilities as a wing than as a ball-handling big. That's a big ask of an old guy, particularly one who plays as many minutes as the King does. Moving LeBron to SF and AD to PF (with Bryant as center) should make the entire lineup better, but that'd give a 39-year-old LeBron more defensive responsibility rather than less. Too, it requires AD to chase PF instead of playing center. And it's not like they're adding Wilt in the middle. Bryant has issues protecting the rim-- they'll need solid defense all-around if they want to get back in the playoffs.
The answer might be Kendrick Nunn. Pairing him with Westbrook-- and allowing him to take the toughtest defensive assignment-- makes all sorts of sense. He's also a shooter who can take advantage of the gravity of the gravity Westbrook/ AD/ LeBron put on opposing defenses. If they go with one wing, IMO, it should be Nunn paired with Westbrook.

He looked really good. Just watched highlights, but he looked like way more of a shot creator than when watching him at Gonzaga. If he can do that against NBA defenses he’s going to be special.
When Bryant left IU early, I thought he would be a solid rebounder and defender, but lacking on the offensive end. Turns out quite the opposite. He's notched out a pretty solid career for himself. Specially if he can get back to being fully healthy.

It’s the lack of lateral quickness that hinders him defensively. He gets - or used to get - up and down the floor well. Same as Cody Zeller, if we’re comparing IU big men from the past decade or so. Bryant is a much better outside shooter than Zeller, and could be a good choice to share the floor with LeBron for that reason.

His signing fell under the radar, but thoughts on P.J Warren signing with the Nets, anyone? IMO, That could be a shrewd signing if Warren can somehow come close to recapturing his '20 bubble nuclear form.

If healthy, and that's a big if, he's a three-level scoring threat. Warren playing off Durant could be pretty devastating. We may never see it, but I was always going to consider Warren the potential steal of the summer.

Watching this OKC - Philly summer league game and Paul Reed catches a ball on the perimeter and an OKC defender closes hard on him (‘cause Paul Reed is a sniper from 3 pt range, you know) and Reed goes to his right toward the basket. Another defender comes over and Reed splits them both with a sweet dribble from behind his back through his legs - and catches it and scores. Sweet move, but the way he caught his own dribble, with two hands, looking at the ball the whole time, made it clear he wasn’t super confident that the ball was going to end up where he wanted to put it. He even stopped and shot a runner, instead of continuing to the hoop. It was a great common man moment. I love Paul Reed for his unique style.
