    5/28 Minor League Scores

Louisville has a couple of games going today. Sanmartin goes in one of them. He's not been good all season. His 13.50 ERA is actually about the same as his 13.78 ERA at the major league level. Sigh. Still on the 40-man roster though. Game Two will probably be a Johnny All-Staff game, with Deck McGuire the odds-on favorite to toe the rubber just after the Star Spangled Banner. McGuire pitched for the Reds in 2017 and acquitted himself quite well. In 13.2 innings, he had a 2.63 ERA. The next season didn't go as well, and he moved around the upper edges of the minors until latching on with a Korean team, then an independent league. It'd be a great story, were he to come back and pitch well. Unlikely, but great.

Chattanooga continues their series with Birmingham at 7:15. Doug Gray says Connor Curlis will pitch tonight, and Doug's never lied to me (as far as I know), so let's go with that. The Lookouts won last night to stretch their record to five above .500. They're still in 3rd place in the North Division of the Southern League, but it's tight. 1.5 games behind the 1st place Rocket City Trash Pandas. Both divisions are tight-- six of the eight teams in the league are within 1.5 games of 1st place.

Dayton trots out Christian Roa to see if he can earn the Dragons win number 30 on the season. A big part of the reason why the Dragons are so good this season is 1B/ OF/ DH Alex McGarry. He leads the league in slugging percentage (.771) and OPS (1.138). He's also fifth in the league in BA, tops the league in HR, and is second in RBI. Something to watch as the season continues-- how cool would a Triple Crown look on a resume? I wonder if he'd prefer to be moved up or to win an MVP. Anyone have any opinion on that?

Daytona will play two today, beginning at 5:05. (Prepare for a long one, 'Tuga fans.) Chase Petty goes in one game, Reynardo Cruz in the other. After starting out hot, Petty has struggled lately. He's giving up almost a hit per inning and K'ing only 8.4/9. The BB rate is good. ERA at 4.05. Cruz has fared worse. He's giving up more than five runs per game, but his K (10.4) and hit rates (7.5) are better. Both are still young and haven't thrown that many innings, so there's always hope.

Louisville is coasting along with a 3-0 after four innings of play.

Max Schrock is 2 for 2.
Jose Barrero homered (2) and walked.
Revier Sanmartin has hurled 4 scoreless frames, fanning 6 in the process.

It's the end of 3 in Daytona, and they lead 5-0.

9 up and 9 down for Chase Petty, including 6 on strikes.

Blake Dunn has singled and walked.
Tyler Callihan has doubled and walked.
Jack Rogers has tripled and walked.

Blake Dunn now has four steals... on the night.

The game is in the 4th inning.

Not sure I've ever seen that.

He has seven for the season, and he's only played 12 games.

Elly De La Cruz just whacked his 8th home run on the year.

Austin Hendrick has swatted his first roundtripper as a Dragon.

    Dayton leads 2-1.

Max Schrock is back lined a single then Jose Barrero followed with a bomb.

Elly De La Cruz with his 8th bomb.

Austin Hendrick had 2 walks but he got all of this bomb hit it over some building

Christian Roa is another big boy 6' 4"/220lbs 2nd round 2020 draft, mid 90s FB if he can harness the breaking ball belongs right there with the other top pitchers, Finished this game at 80 pitches after loading bases in the 4th.

I bet Hendrick is happy to get out of Daytona.

In the following half inning, Reds’ rehabber Mike Minor (1-2, 3.38) achieved one of the rarest feats in the game of baseball, tossing an immaculate inning (nine pitches and three strikeouts).

Will be interesting to see what he can do playing in the same OF as Hinds. One of them should emerge as the clear cut superior prospect by the end of this year.

Whichever guy learns how to cut his K% down significantly will be the winner.
