    5/31 Minor League Scores

Daytona - trails after 7 by a count of 3-2.

    Tanner Cooper with a very good start: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K.

    Jack Rogers has doubled twice.

After an excellent start to the season, Braylin Minier is now mired in a 1 for 24 slump.

Louisville - is off. They played on Memorial Day this week.

    Dayton - leads 2-0 after two-and-a-half innings.

Joe Boyle is on the mound for the Dragons. He has struggled, by his standards, giving up 2 hits over three of scoreless pitching. Boyle has struck out 5.

Allan Cerda jacked home run number 7 on the season, a solo shot.

    Jose Torres has singled twice.

Chattanooga - is down 2-0 through two.

Eduardo Salazar has not been good tonight.

The Lookouts threatened in the second on consecutive one-out singles by Robinson, Free and Hurtubise. The rally was snuffed when the speedy Mike Siani grounded into a double play.

Daytona - stumbled down the stretch, and fell 5-2.

Tanner Cooper and Javi Rivera occupied opposite ends of the pitching spectrum tonight. Cooper excelled, Rivera reeked. Javi allowed 4 runs in his 3 innings on the mound.

The Tortugas offense mustered no resistance late, going 9 up and 9 down from the 7th frame on.

The Tortugas season is slipping into darkness as they now stand at 19-27.

Dayton - traded runs with South Bend in the 4th. They lead 3-1 now, and are threatening to add on more runs.

Joe Boyle served up his first long ball of the year. He has pitched 37+ innings.

Elly De La Cruz singled home the run in the bottom of the 4th.

Chattanooga - now has fallen behind 4-zip in the 4th.

Eddie Salazar has just scuffled his way to the shower. 4 runs, 2 hits, 6 walks, 3 wild pitches. He has two runners on base that he is responsible for. His ERA stands at 6.70.

Allan Cerda with what looked like a 1 handed bomb.

Joe Boyle seemed to be working on his breaking ball. FB was at 95-98. Here is his last batter and the HR he gave up.

    Fun with numbers:

    Elly De La Cruz was 2-4 with a double (10) and a SB (12). His May: .311/ .367/ .600/ .967. 29 K in 98 PA. 7 BB.

He's got a pretty good shot at a 30/30 season in Dayton. Might be able to get to 30 doubles and (with his speed) 10 triples on the season too.

A 30/30/30/10 season would be pretty spectacular.

I don’t think he’ll get that in Dayton…because he’ll get moved up to AA. If he did that combined though. I’d take it.

Cerda with the McGriff like helicopter follow thru. Been years since I’ve seen that.

Interesting. A 20-year-old in AA would set him up-- assuming adequacy-- for a possible cup of coffee in 2023. As a 21-year-old.

If the Reds are actually good in 2023 and Elly is killing it in AA/AAA then I could see a mid 2023 ETA. I think early 2024 at the latest unless there's a pretty big setback. There's been plenty of other stars that have come up recently and done well in their very early 20's so it's about time we had a guy like that.

I'm interested to see who ends up as the Reds everyday SS over the next few years, and where the other shortstops move to. I have little doubt that both McLain and Elly will be in the bigs together and Barrero will probably be there as well.

Unless his perform work drops, his current play is saying move him up soon IMO.

The plate approach says to hold off, IMO. The K% is also too high.

I'd push him to be at around an 8% BB rate and a 27% K rate (or less) before moving him up.

That’s valid as well. It will be a balancing act for sure
